  • No Semi Auto "Assault" Rifles? Completely HYPOTHETICAL Question

Again this is strictly hypothetical but let's just say you can't own a semi-auto "assault" style rifle for whatever the reason.
For shites and giggles, let's say that Wile E Coyote Super Genius invented a ray that made them all disappear (so please don't say you aren't giving up you AR/AK/SKS etc, that's not the point of this thread)

What would your rifle choice be (model and caliber) and why would you choose it?

I'd go with a .357 lever action. Might do this anyway, have been having a bug lately to become a cowboy.

Why am I limited to one? Depends on the purspose for such rifle as to what I would choose.

I'd choose a bolt action because they load quickly, especially those that accept clips. Lever action is strong and reliable but much slower to reload. The others even slower still.

.30-.30 lever action....plus several in pistol calibers...38/357/44/44mag/45Colt for commonality with many of my handguns. Maybe a .22 as well, but I'd have to go buy one.

I too would want multiple guns, but it would depend on what I was needing it for. If you're talking about replacing a semi-auto firearm, I'd go with a lever or a pump, simply because I can fire one much much quicker than a bolt action...BUT a bolt is more accurate, and generally can get a bit more powerful with your rounds, don't have to worry about round nose, etc. There are more and more bolt guns now taking magazines, so you could get higher cap, quicker reloads on the bolt gun, but your shots would be a bit slower.

Caliber would also depend. If I had one gun to go survive in the wilderness with...I suppose it would depend where I was. For carrying ammo, getting food, etc a .22 would be pretty sweet. I could even use it on deer, etc. At the same time, I prefer bigger calibers for ease of killing bigger animals (but worthless against squirrel, birds, rabbits, etc as a food collector - IMO....there is more left from your .22 than a .243 would leave). .308 is popular and easier to get than other calibers, but if I'm going 30 cal, I'd rather stick with an '06. If smaller maybe a .243, 7mm-08, 25-06....too hard to pick just one. Maybe just one of everything and I could start leaving them behind as I found a reason not to have them......or not.

The levers are usually short, light, and easily carried. As is my scout rifle. So one of or a couple of those would be the primary gun(s).

Guess my SHTF/Assault rifle would then become my 1981 Marlin 30/30. I do have a fare supply of ammo for it.

There's no category for none but that would be my answer. I might poke my eye out with a pointy stick.

I'm sure that DF would consider my 45 carbine an assault weapon even if it's only a ten shot semi. It looks sorta mean and that's her criteria.

AR style 7615 pump action .223 like they use in Austrailia and used by Law Enforcement, very fast action that uses AR mags.

                          Remington 7600 pump 30-06.

I'd love to have the one in 223 nowadays, but my "Pa Deer Machinegun" will work till I can find one
