Having played this theory in my mind recently I'd probably go with a bolt gun. I like my son's Ruger Scout in 308. I'd probably have the rail on it so I could mount a conventional scope as I'm not totally sold on the Long Eye Relief concept or at least the looks of it which is important.

Looking cool is just about everything.

I have a Mares leg and surprised myself when I chose bolt over it. It feels really neat in the hand but it's not conducive to aiming much without a buttstock. It's plenty accurate for behavior modification but in a worse case scenario, hunting etc it has it's limitations.

It does have the looking cool factor built in though big time. Mine is 45 Colt, one in 22 might be real handy too.

I was mainly looking at the ML as a novelty item, which is one of the reasons I choose not to purchase it at the time (well that and cause I didn't really have novelty $$)

We have GOT to use the correct terminology if we expect the media to get it right.

The correct term is "Assault Stick". </rant>

Only if it's black, has a pistol grip or a bayonet lug.

Hmmmm...isn't a bayonet lug on a pointy stick (arrrrggg!! "Assault Stick", dangit)

Where was I? Oh yeah...isn't a bayonet lug on an "Assault Stick" kind of redundantly redundant?

Maybe an "Assault Stick" should have a rifle lug? Only seems fair.

"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man."

As it just so happens, with the wife being out of town and state, I finally had a chance to "functionally" test my Big Boy today that I picked up earlier this month.

Happy to say all is good with the Henry! Now I need to get it on a bench and make sure the sights are where they should be. From the test today it sure seems like they are right on. Just don't really trust myself and my eyes these days shooting off hand.

And, really, a .44mag doesn't have much kick at all! At least in a rather heavy lever action.
