  • Win. Black Talon

I have 2 boxes of 9mm 147gr. Black talon. I remember I bought and shelved it when they stopped manufacturing it. I guess it's like a 2 dollar bill. You can save it as long as you want it's still worth 2 dollars.

Crazy people do crazy things. Or so I'm told on a quite regular basis.

I don't understand that, I guess it's a collector thing. If you really need it for carry, just get a PDX1, same thing but improved.

Those 'Black Talons' are blackety black and scarity scary, they should be banned!

PDX1 is much more friendly sounding. Very technical techy.

Taked to the Win. rep. at last years NRA show, he said they still make and sell the Black Talon, only now it's called Win. Ranger T, and it's not colored black, he said it's the exact same bullet, better low-flash powder. I don't know, just what he said.

I think SXT got dropped/rebadged as the Ranger T (as mentioned above same bullet different load), which is still the 1st gen bullet design of this line if memory serves. The newer Ranger (RA9B stuff) is the second gen bonded bullet and then PDX1 is the 3rd gen bullet. Don't quote me on that.

                    So...

1st gen = Black Talon, SXT, Ranger T
2nd gen = Ranger bonded or whatever they call it
                    3rd gen = PDX1

For all practical purposes, same stuff tweaked over a decade or so.

Somebody correct me if I'm off...

The guy does not know what he is talking about, or just simplified it thinking that you would not understand it.

I have been a Ranger dealer for 15 years. The Black Talon, Ranger T-Series, Winchester SXT, Ranger SXT, and Ranger Bonded ie Winchester PDX1 are not the Same eXact Thing.

They are all related by being a reverse tappered bullet design known as SXT.Kind of like saying a Chevy Corvette and a Cavalier are the Same eXact Thing.

The closest to the original Black Talon would have been the Ranger SXT. It used the same black lubalox bullet but was discontinued back in 1998.

Reviews of the PDX1 in gelatin look talon like. If anything they got better with more controlled expansion and maybe better penetration.

Hope its not Chuck Norris or you are screwed. He can pull .45s out of the air while they are 'on the way'.
