They're special. Astronauts and Legislators are both government folks. We peons don't have the same rights. Members of the media, too. They can possess contraband and brandish it on TV but we can't.

Next county south of us, a government school teacher was caught with a stun gun in her locked file cabinet in the school office. She was fired, but the State declined to prosecute her even though it was illegal.

I understand our Astronaut bought an AR-15 to show how easy it is to buy guns in America (trying, I guess, to cast it in a negitive light???).
Sooooo... A guy with enough security clearance to pilot the space shuttle and married to a (former) Congress woman, with an AZ CHL is able to go into a sporting goods store, plunk down cash and walk out with a gun that everyone on the planet knows he will do no evil with, all because... He passed the background check.

Breitbart (and others) has a nice article on Congresswoman Gabby shooting an AR-15 at a range two years ago, before her being shot. Good, smiling picture of her evidently proud of how well she shot the BG target.
