  • I Got Good News & Bad News re My Permit

It's been over seven weeks since I submitted my paperwork for my Connecticut permit, so I decided to stop by my local trooper's office today to check on how things were going.

First the good news ... I haven't been rejected. He said that since I hadn't heard any bad news by now, then that's good news. If my permit hasn't been rejected by now (CT is a "may issue" state), then it means that it will eventually be approved.

Now for the bad news ... who knows when I'll actually receive it. He said that the approvals he had just received today were one's that he had processed over 2 1/2 months ago. And those were processed three weeks before mine. So it looks like I have at least another month yet to go.

I can't imagine your pain. I'd have the moving company loading things up if I was unfortunate enough to somehow live there in the first place.

As BS as Washington is our permits are processed and issued usually under a week. Not test, no range qual, fill out the form, pay your 36 bucks? Might be more for a new one, and off you go.

Hopefully yours will arrive soon and your suffering will end.

Do I understand correctly that you can't even get your new gun until the permit comes through? You have to do that for each new gun?

In mn our permit is good for one year. By as many as you want in that year.
No, you can't have the gun. They won't give out to you, even if its paid for, until you show your permit.

Probably another reason they are so slow and behind if you have to jump through the rings of fire every year.

Ours are good for 5 years. I'm thankful of that too. My son's must be up for renewal, he mentioned it the other night. He has to go to the county since we live out of the city limits.

I can still renew mine here since my address does say Monroe and DOL isn't bright enough to figure out locations.

For a long time it was Chiefs discretion, he could issue to any state resident he wanted to even outside the city limits but the all powerful DOL took that away.
He's aware of my location but signs it anyhow. Very convenient so far.

good ol Indiana has now the lifetime permit. beats the hell out of the 4 year renewal and the same ol b.s. of getting finger printed and local chief then OK'
s it and then it is sent o the state ad then in about a month you get the perit. but if u have a permit and it is about to exprie and u renew the renewal is valid until u ge tthe new permit.Life time pay, once then forget about it...

In Connecticut a permit is good for five years. I don't think renewal is supposed to be as complicated as the original application, but that can always change in this state where Democrats control both houses and the governorship.

Once you have your permit in hand, you can buy as many guns as you want. You can't buy a handgun without a permit, but you don't have to apply for a permit for each gun.

I feel for you RevRay.. I only had to wait 3 weeks for my permit but felt like forever. The anticipation will only make it that much sweeter when you do get it.. Also isn't there something in the Good Book about patience being a virtue ?

I think your correct but I can tell you it's never had a profound effect on me. Me and patience don't belong on the same planet.

I'm probably going to hell for it too huh? Great, one more thing to fire up my ulcers.

Sorry for your pain, RevRay. Maybe you need a new address in a more gun- and tax-friendly state?

I had to wait about 3 weeks for mine and I have to pay about the same amount of money to renew it every 5 years.

                    ...shall not be infringed. WTH!
                    Very interesting...

That's what I am accustomed to, as well. Pay $10, get the license. No wait. No fingerprints. No test. No range qualification. Carry any handgun you own.

                        Repeat every four years.

Reading what goes on in other states, I feel pretty good about my own.

Permit? You don't have no permit. You don't need no stinking permit. Your permit is your God given second amendment right.

Paying and waiting is infringement John Houston said it best, give me liberty or give me, no, that weren't it, Hubert Humphrey said it best when man plows his field into guns, corn, naw, that's wrong too.
