  • This Weekends Smoking Fun

Things at work have been CRAZY and I have barely had time to breath so when Saturday rolled around I needed to destress. I rolled out my smoker to play with my new PID controller. I have found that cooking Q is one of the best ways for me to relax of course that may be tied hand in hand with the beer that gets consumed

This butt was almost 11 lbs and took 13 hours to smoke but man o man was it delicious !! The PartyQ performed flawlessly and I can't wait to start doing overnight cooks with it!

Getting ready to go on at 4:45am

PartyQ hooked up and working great!

Getting ready to come off the grill. You can see the probe placement

Getting ready to wrap and rest

Pulled and ready to eat..... Man was it tasty!!

hope everyone elses weekend was good and relaxing.

Looks great, but your title fooled me. I thought it was goin' to be about the big pot smokin' party in Colorado that was broken up by blacks shootin' people!

Man, does that look GREAT!!! I can almost smell it through my screen.

Unfortunately, I had to suffer through a crawfish boil, surrounded by friends and family. I guess we all must make sacrifices now and then to keep the peace!

OK, I give up, my stupid question of the day.

How does that smoker work. I don't see a propane tank, I don't see a power cord going anyplace.

Surly barbecue bisquits won't last no 13 hours and how the heck would the Party Q control the temperature of a barbecue bisquit anyhow.

I'm missing something real simple here.

And while I appear stupid please don't call me Shirley.

You use charcoal, load up the smoker with unlit charcoal, then light 6-10 coals, put them on the unlit, slowly the unlit coals will ignite, allowing longer cooking times. The party Q is a fan, thermometer and computer. The computer controls the temperature with the fan.

                            This post inspired me!

I brought home a "pre-seasoned" Masterbuilt electric smoker just a couple of days ago for the princely sum of $20. Bought a Boston butt just under 14 lbs yesterday. Today I brought home a bag of apple chips and another of hickory chips.

I'm going to cut the butt in half and smoke it on Sun.

Hmmmm... cut the butt in half could have other connotations!!!

Hopefully, I end up with something as nice as your butt, or somewhat close.

Dang, there I go again! Mind if I ask what your recipe for the rub was?

                              This is my rub

Rub 8 servings (this will only cover one rack of ribs increase at your pleasure)

                              2 tsp garlic powder
                              2 tsp red pepper flakes
                              1 tsp paprika
                              2 tsp black pepper
                              2 tsp mustard powder
                              4 tsp salt
                              6 tsp brown sugar

I usually make 2 servings for a whole butt.
