    • DPMS Panther Arms AR. 20" stainless steel bull barrel. 1/9 twist. 5.56 chamber. Barska Sniper Scope with 3-9x42 Red/Green Illuminated mil dot reticle. Not the best scope in the world, but should work until I can get something better.
Thinking of getting a stripped flat top upper for it, and transferring parts into it. Or maybe a complete flattop upper with a shorter and lighter barrel for when more mobility and less accuracy is needed. Rather have another complete upper so I can swap them out quickly.

        Man you're killing me.

Now that right there definitely belongs in a happy-positive thread.

        • Got a new non-firearm toy today. The old plastic 15 year old electric weedeater cracked and broke over the winter. So today I got a new Stihl weed wacker. It's my first gas trimmer and pretty fun. Make lots of noise, tears stuff up, and throws dirt and grass everywhere and best of all NO EXTENSION CORDS!

            • Ice finally melted off the lakes around here a couple three weeks ago and the trout have been biting! Average size 15-17" and I even sent five of them down to my in-laws with the wife as she left yesterday for a visit. Plan on throwing a couple of them in the smoker in the next day or four.

                  • Woo Hoo, got my cartridge shaped laser bore sight to get my scope on paper yesterday. Gonna set the scope an inch or more above the laser dot at 25 yards, since the scope sits so high. And see how it works out at 100 yards. The free public range is open today, so might run out to it and finish sighting the scope in. I guess if I put the center of the groups about 3" above the bullseye, it will then be sighted in for 200 yards. I put a see thru scope mount so I can use the iron sights if needed, It has 2 more rails on the side in case I want to mount a laser and small flash light on it. That would definitely warrant one of those crazy bright 1000 lumen or more flash lights. It's already front heavy, so adding that stuff to the receiver is helping to balance it out some. Might be able to reduce the coyote population a bit with a bright enough flashlight.
The rifle and barrel are marked .223, but I kept reading DPMS chambered all their guns for 5.56 back when that gun was made, but stamped them .223 (It's been sitting in a gun safe for 14 years), so I contacted DPMS, and they verified it has the 5.56 chamber. I wasn't too worried about the gun not handling 5.56, but read that shooting 5.56 in a .223 can cause a loss of accuracy due to first part of the rifling getting eroded or something along those lines. Last thing I want is that heavy target bull barrel to lose accuracy. I don't know if all that stuff is true or not, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

It seems like i remember with my AR using Iron sights that a 50 yrd. Zero = 200 yard zero. Seems like it was about 1 to 1.5 inches high at 100. My scope is about the same height as my irons. But if your scope sits a bit higher your mileage may vary.

This has been my experience, too.

With a 50yd BZO, you can expect POA to equal POI at 50 & 200 yards with maximum ordinate of approximately 1" between 50 and 200 yds. After 250 yards, the bullet drops off quickly, impacting approximately 6" below POA at 300 yards.

                              • And another, this is a good place to put it, happy thingy....Colt 9mm New Agent just got back from a successful month long, special attention from senior customer service management, trip back to CS primarily for a failure to extract spent cases issue. FedEx round trip expenses paid for by Colt. Especially given I bought this gun out of production NOS, I be quite happy with them there folk right now.
