Fiber Optic Sights

I wanted to post a response to someone who was considering a fiber optic site for their PM9. I will be darned if I could find that post. Probably my old age is showing, I know the post is here somewhere but I couldn't find it.

In either case, I wanted to let everyone know that I came through and put fiber optic sights on my PM9. I put a red front with green in the rear. These are made by Williams and I got them from Kahrshop. They are pretty bright and I can see these sights without my glasses on. Kahr also sells Hi Viz fiber optic sights but I think the Williams firesights are brighter. I had Trijicon night sites on the gun when I bought it but didn't really care for them. I am probably the only guy in the worlld who doesn't like night sites. I need to shoot and see if I can pick up the target quicker (and hit it of course!).

Well your not the only guy. I'm not a big fan of night sights myself. I do like the XS versions because they show up well even in daylight. Most night sights I've encountered don't work for me in the daylight.

I have the truglo tritium fiber optics on my Glock 17 and absolutely love them. I wish I could add them to the Kahr as well. I guess the Williams would be a good option, I just wish they made them with the tritium as well because they are super bright at night time and the day.

I considered the optic fiber sights for my CW9, but they look like they are pretty large... as in "agressive to the holster". Yep, I am just a tad bit disappointed in the trij sights I had installed on the CW - they are tiny, and very hard to see any color contrast in the daylight, but I figure that low light or darkness is when I need the most help anyway, and they do show up enough for that.

both do different things. Those fiber optics I have on my G19 are just totally awesome,but it is my range gun and around home gun, not my primary go to gun. but those dawson fiber optic sights are some of the finest I have ever shot. Not sure about the holster carry thing either, as I don't even have a holster for my g19. I never carry it. I did get when I had those dawson sight installed alittle package with the sights with extra fiber optics in case. But they ain't night sights like your trijicon sights would be . My PM9 has the xs big dots on it and it sure stand sout in the evening light and for daytime that front sight just wants to grab ones eyeballs when he pulls the gun up. Certainly not a target sight as xs states but IMO one heh of a fast sight for defense purposes.

My local gunsmith says he replaces about 3 sets a week from carry guns that have gotten broken, "aka to bulky". I love em too, but would not use for a carry gun.

There should be no worries about bumping a fiber optis sight and breaking it. I have been using fiber optiis sight on my hunting bow for years, carrying it through brush and raising and lowering it from treestands. I have had limbs get caught inside the sight housing and never damage any of my sight pins which are not supported near as well as those on a pistol.
I seriously doubt you will ever damage a fiber optic sight.

I do not think the fiber optic site is larger then the CW9 sight. It certainly is not the case on my PM9. Actually, if the XS Big Dot sites fit in holsters, I do not think you will have an issue with fiber optics.

Apparently Jeepster's gunsmith says he replaces them all the time. Not sure how that happens. If the carry gun is oin a holster it is not going to break the sights. I only pull my carry gun out to:

A - Practice
B - Practice some more
C - Use it for self defense

It is highly unlikey that I will break the sites in those occasions. I guess I am a non-believer in the theory that fiber optic sites = fragility. I know lots of guys who have them installed on their deer rifles and shotguns that are pretty abused in the woods in less then ideal conditions and not one has ever broken.

my main concern with putting the FO sights on my CW9 was the large size and sharp looking edges of the front sight.... looks like it would be troublesome in drawing from many holsters
