I heard it sucks really bad. I ended up getting my wife a big refurbished Lap Top so it would have 7 on it and not 8.

I guess new isn't always better.

When Win 8 came out I rushed to get one of the last Sony Z series laptops...with Win 7 pro. I already had one....this was for wife. These are our keyboard and mouse staples. Tablets are Apple. Next gen laptop/desktop for us...in a few years....will also most likely be ios/apple.

Win 8 is just Win 7 in a new wrapper...I've got it on one of my PCs and it works just fine.
It does boot up way faster than any of my Win 7 machines...

I received a MS Surface Pro 2 tablet for Christmas with windows 8.1 on it, was very awkward to begin with but after a few days I really like it. Just takes a bit to get accustom to the new interface. Very fast start up. The Surface Pro 2 has a I-5 processor and can run any program that I could run on my laptop but with much better battery life and in small tablet form factor, I am really happy with it.

I miss XP Pro .... I still have irreplaceable legacy s/w designed for 95/98 and keep an old IBM laptop available when that s/w is needed. I still think windoze7 sucks.

been using Win8 now for about 3 months. It is a little different but all in all works great. In time we use more of the features.
I remember when Windows first came out around 95, the world hated it and wanted to just keep using DOS....

That Windows thing may have come out more like 90. I am old and a little rusted up.

                      Windows 8

I solved my Windows problems 6 years ago. It was easy, I bought a Mac. I still have the same Mac, still runs as good as the day I bought it. Once you go Mac, you never go back.

Posting this with linux, which I've used for about 15 years. There is a learning curve for folks brought up on MS Windows or Apple, but there are benefits: all software is free and downloadable, it's very stable, and it's quite immune to viruses. For the tinkerers among us, it would be worth checking out, IMNSHO.

Nothing but a new thing. I just install vNext before or just after it hits the pavement and move forward from there. Been on Win 8 since the release candidate dropped, no complaints, no praises...its just an OS.

                            I've never liked Windows.
When my Windows 7 laptop kicked the bucket I replaced it with a Chromebook.
It goes from cold start to logged on to the interned in eight seconds flat.
For an internet browser, which is all I use it for, it's truly amazing.
No need for third party firewalls, antivirus or other crap.
It's been lightning fast with zero problems so far.
The screen is a little small.
But I plugged it into a 26" wide screen high def flat monitor - LOL!

I was shocked that Google could produce such a stable OS right out of the box?
But then I read that Google may have cheated.
It appears that the Chrome operating system is actually Linux-based!

                            Now it makes sense...
