    New knife for Kahr owners

Want one! Just hate that locking system.

I'll probably stick with my Griptilian.

I guess I like Spyderco folders because, like my Kahr, they lay flat in my pocket, and If I choose to carry one in the watch pocket of my jeans the reinforced fiberglass handles do not scratch up my belt. This one, with the H1 steel, is the perfect knife around salt water.

I'm a fixed blade kind of guy but the Spyderco has always looked good to me. I'll probably have to have one just cause ya know?

For folders I've long favored Benchmade but have heard good things about Spyderco.

Does Spyderco make them? Not that I know of.

I have an SOG, an ElK River? that my son just got me for Christmas and two no names. My favorite and the one I keep coming back to carry the most is a stag handled damascus blade Greg sent me a couple years back. Just a dandy little belt knife that works well for me.

For the most part Spyderco really does not fit in the heavy duty folder category, although they did start with models especially for the police. These things are thin, light, and with the half serrated blade, are great for cutting webbing, etc. Some models of these knives get quite expensive +($300 range) but contain very good steel.

I am a Spydie fan but they blew this one IMHO. Smallish blade with a full size delica body at too high a price point. Sorry, not for me Kahr.

BTW Spyderco is an American company that has their manufacturing done in Japan. Good steel is the usually used and their knives are generally well made, durable and simple. I have several and like them very much. I just don't see the value in the Kahr/syperco knife.

Interestingly I saw a test done with serrated knives vs just good old sharp plain blades and the speed of cutting seatbelt webbing. Turned out the serrated versions tended to grab the webbing as they cut and slowed down the cutting process. Plain sharp blades won the test every time. FWIW

I love all my Spydercos, been thru a number of them over the years. Wore a couple of them out during my excessive rock climbing and backpacking years. Just hard on them.

Some of them they make here, some are made overseas. But I have one of the newer Chinese models (Tenacious) and it's a pretty decent knife. I'm not a knife guy though. I only keep a few folders (all Spydercos) here and there for general use. They kinda run the gambit on the quality of the steel, from some carbon stuff, to surgical steel, etc. Just depends on where they come from as to the quality, but like I said, even the cheap stuff is pretty good.

I doubt the Kahr knife is made here, but it's possible. But wherever the regular Delica is made...should be the same. I know at one point, they only made knives of a certain steel type out in Colorado somewhere. Everything else was made in China, Japan, etc.

Not really, particularly if you get one that's VG-10 or higher steel. Spyderco has a bunch of stuff in the $100-$200 range.
