  • Happiness is a warm AR (and Kahr, and FNX)

Grinning like a Cheshire cat over at my house tonite.

I got a chance to fire the 10.5" AR tonite, for function testing. I did a lot of reading up, calling around, trying to determine the best buffer to put in there, as well as the best spring. I ended up going with the H2 buffer and standard carbine spring. This was mostly Noveske's advice, and because their KX3 Flaming Pig muzzle device tends to be a great equalizer of port pressure on short barrels.

It ate up reloads and militar M885 ammo equally well. I am very happy with how it turned out. Sorry no accuracy testing, and I may need to wait for two weeks to do that.

Similarly, the PM45's and FNX45 at up a few mags each with zero problems.

When things work as they ought to... its a wunnerful thang

        I couldn't agree more...
The only thing better than having all the guns and ammo you'd ever need would be being able to shoot it all off the back porch.

            Bulgarian Suchka

            Although an AK.
My Arsenal SLR-106U is a factory Bulgarian 10.5" 1:7 chrome lined barrel 5.56 pistol.
It will stabilize any 55-75 gr .223/5.56 FMJ/HP round I've tried.
And has ran 100% flawless with over 2000 rounds down range.
That's with no muzzle break or booster!
Reliability with a factory short gas system AK was expected.
But the pleasant surprise was the accuracy from such a short barrel.

These shorty guns can really be shooters.
            Enjoy your new AR.

Dayum, no muzzle device on a 10in .223 is flash city! Even the Mini-14 with its standard bare muzzle gives brillian flashes in even moderately dim light.

I'll tell ya the Noveske "Flaming Pig" was really amazing. Managed to get three shots off in no-lights, night time, overcast sky... no visible moon. It was dark. The flash was barely perceptable with M885. Just a faint, very dim, deep orange pencil of light. That part amazed me as much as the previous proper functioning. I remember the first time I shot a Mini-14 at night.... that flash ball had to be 3 feet in diameter, and of course still there but invisible in daylight.

Sounds good! How did you like shooting with that new "arm brace" ?
I have been reading about them, and have something new incoming that I may have to get one for.

Sounds really awesome, so how about a pic or two?

You folks and Obamessiah have really got me jonesing for an AR. In 55 years of owning guns, the first being my sweet little Ruger Single Six (still have it), I have never picked up the AR fever until the past several months.

Not being mechanically inclined (read: lazy), building an AR ain't on the table for me. Definitely will buy a ready-made rifle - the choice has been narrowed to the bare bones S&W MP 15 Sport and the Colt LE6920 - preferably with Magpul furniture.

The only use for me is punching paper and self defense - plus I'll probably just give it to one of my kids. Won't add anything except an optic & a sling later.

Y'all care to opine on either one of those and would make recommendations?

You guys are like Typhoid Mary with this AR disease.

The pistol was very awkward to shoot with my arm in the brace....

But I found an alternate hold that seemed to create just the right magic between shooter and firearm. Ahem.

And, seriously, with such a short setup, having a good sling makes a great deal of difference in how you can hold it. I'm not big on fads, but the Vickers sling is one slick little doodad that works like they say it will, and actually serves a real purpose.

I am glad to hear you where able to find an "alternate hold" that worked well
I will be building a pistol AR in time also... But couldn't help myself and just ordered a new Zastava pap m92. so I may get an SB-47 for it???
But first I want to just try adding a sling and use the push against hold method, I do have a single point bungee to try, but a Vickers type 2 point may work better?

Honestly, I tried to get more pictures, but there's some here already:

                          http://www.kahrtalk.com/showthread.php?t=22006&page=2

There's a Vickers sling on it, and the pull forward method works well - IF - you are able to get a tight lock on the sling. That takes a little bit of practice and might be ok for instnaces where you need a precise aimed shot, ie, zombies at 200 meters. For quicker shot with fairly good precision, the "alternate hold" on the pistol works great.

I'm not sure how much a sling will pull the group, due to tension on the barrel. Free floating tubes are very popular... I don't have one though.

Is that FNX45 the Tactical model? I almost bought one before I purchased the M&P C.O.R.E. model. I think I inherited the eyes of a 120 yr old man.
