    Classic!

I had good luck using Gun Genie on GalleryofGuns. With that service, you actually do buy it from a dealer or FFL, so you pay taxes, but if you have problems, you can go back to the dealer/ffl. It can also be a good way to get a popular gun that is in short supply. You basically select the gun you want, participating dealers have pre-bid on the lowest price they are willing to sell, and you select the one you want. You pay a deposit online and Davidson ships the gun to the dealer/FFL that you selected where you will pay your balance. Some smaller gun dealers seem to appreciate the extra business it brings in. Some larger ones seem like it is a bother, but they signed up for the program, so I'm not sure why they feel that way. No one forced them to participate.

Hap - I just bought one of these from Grabagun near Dallas:

      http://www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/w...layErrorView_y

They shipped it the next business day to my FFL in Austin. That place charged a $25 fee.

I did have to pay the Texas sales tax (store & myself are all in Texas), but that was to the point of purchase.

It was my first online firearm purchase.

Went very smooth, except my local FFL gun shop took two days to log my order in (they do a large volume business here, so their deliveries are pretty big) before I could pick it up.

They called me when it was ready for pick up, walked in the store, showed my drivers license & CHL, filled out the 4473 on their laptop, paid them the $25 transfer fee and walked out with the gun.

All of my guns (5) have been found on the internet, with 4 being shipped to an FFL & 1 being concluded face-to-face. I enjoy the process of searching for just the right gun for just the right price.

When you fill out the transfer forms, do you all give your SS#? I don't. One, it isn't required, and two, I don't trust the dealer/retailer/FFL to keep that document safe and secure. I've seen too many documents thrown in dumpsters that should have been shredded.

I have never provided my SSN on a 4473.

I never have either, although Eric Holder undoubtedly knows what it is.

One more question. Does the FFL dealer the gun goes to ever try to charge you sales tax on the gun purchase itself? Even though it was bought in another state?
I've bought several guns online and never paid sales tax.
That's likely to end soon - but for now...

I don't know about your FFL, but mine has kept every 4473 copy he's ever dealt with, under lock and key. He's private, with no storefront, and does business with LE, FBI, DEA, etc. He gets a visit every so often to make sure everything is on the up and up. As long as he follows the rules, these guys will help him out, if he has any problems. Have never given my #SS. Doesn't really matter, they know who you are. I have made 3 purchases and a trade on line...no taxes, no problems.
