Anybody get a peek at the Women's Biathlon coverage?

84 contestants, everyone of them could shoot, and ski. I sat in awe for an hour.

Oh! I forgot to mention, everyone of them was absolutely stunning, if you happen to be into 6 foot tall Nordic women breathing hard and carrying a $4000 rifles on their back.

I was watching it today. I too was amazed at how well these women could shoot. I didn't catch how far the range was, I saw one marker that said 100m, but maybe that was another course? To be able to ski that long, then stop and shoot into a bullseye five times takes some concentration. I was also watching their techniques and shooting stances, all text book perfect. I don't know if any young shooters were watching but they could learn something. Those were some nice rifles, that bolt system was nice, one finger they could eject and load.

I caught it too, and was totally surprised nbc would televise anything with guns - especially during daytime coverage when "thu chuldrin" could see it.

Trying to remember the old days, weren't the shooting stations scattered along the alpine route with judges keeping the scores at each station?

Since the shoot and ski is probably over, that pretty much ends my interest in this go-round of the winter Olympics

That's what the ridiculous skating "sports" need. Some excitement, risk... someone shooting. Even if only paintball, it would add a new thrill to an otherwise boring elitist display.
Judging by today's left wing, looks like Senator Joe McCarthy was right after all.

Pretty amazing. Almost all totally collapse from exhaustion at the end of that event and they are competing at a high elevation. How does one control breathing to shoot like that in those conditions?

              From Wikipedia:

              "Shooting details[edit]
The biathlete carries the small bore rifle, which weighs at least 3.5 kilograms (7.7 lb), excluding ammunition and magazines. The rifles use .22 LR ammunition and are bolt action or Fortner (straight-pull bolt) action.
The target range shooting distance is 50 metres (160 ft). There are five circular targets to be hit in each shooting round. When shooting in the prone position the target diameter is 45 millimetres (1.8 in), when shooting in the standing position the target diameter is 115 millimetres (4.5 in). On all modern biathlon ranges, the targets are self-indicating, in that they flip from black to white when hit, giving the biathlete as well as the spectators instant visual feedback for each shot fired."

I saw it too. Best part of the olympics. Next best is the ski jump.after that I'm done
The only thing better than having all the guns and ammo you'd ever need would be being able to shoot it all off the back porch.

The biathlon was enjoyable to watch, I also got a kick out of the downhill skiing yesterday. Imagine hurtling down a mountain at 84 mph.

I felt it cheapened the dignity of the Olympics when they let the long haired skate rats in. Snowboarding? Really?

I've been a patroller at my local ski area for 32 years...since before snowboards. I've watched the sport mature. Sure, some of those kids listen to music you don't like and they talk and dress funny but most of them are great kids. I like the fact that they're outside enjoying winter instead of sitting home playing video games. Anyone who is disdainful of snowboarding should try it once. The next day will feel like the day after your first car wreck. Snowboarding is here to stay. I've done it a few times but I'll stick with my skis. It's fun when the kids call me a gnarly old dude...

You may also want to catch the women's hockey team, currently they are 2-0 and beat Switzerland today 9-0. Wednesday they have to play a very tough Canadian team. Most these athletes are college students. Not the professional mens teams we see now.

340pd and one other guy sound surprised that women can ski and shoot at a world class level. Bad word placement I hope.

I've learned a lot from women over the years whether the were 6' Nordic beauties or 3' Pigmies. Mostly I learned that women are trouble from the word go and that a women with a gun can be down right dangerous. Yeah, they come on to you like they're all soft and cuddly, but they are all equipped with a set of claws. I had Mrs. Muggsy de-clawed before we got married, but I still keep an eye on her. She can shoot with the best of them.
