What was your military specialty?

I saw this over on glockforum.com and thought it was interesting to hear some of the background of our past and present military.

Post up your job title(s), ratings, MOS, AFSC, etc.

I was in the Air Force as a 462X0/2W1X1, Aircraft Armament Systems on the F-15 at Langley Air Force Base, Virginia from '87-90 in the 48th Fighter Interceptor Squadron.

Retrained into 304X6/2E1X1, Satellite and Wideband Communications Equipment, and was stationed at Offutt AFB, Nebraska working AFSAT. Then it was Camp Humphreys in South Korea working mobile SATCOM in the field. Finally, fixed SATCOM at Buckley AFB, Colorado.

After getting out of active duty in '96, I waited nine years to go back in to the Air National Guard to work SATCOM again for ~3 years in a mobile Space Warning Squadron, 137th SWS.

I love my time in the military and miss it.

I had a Secret Security clearance.
And worked as a Consultant for the NAVY on the cruise missile project.

I was a gunners mate on a destroyer in the early 70's. I worked on a 5" and was the PO in charge of small arms. Initially we had M1's, BAR's and Thompsons. Eventually we off loaded those and got M14's. Spent one westpac cruise to the Gulf of Tonkin (firing naval gunfire support among other things) and a second to the Gulf of Oman (chasing a carrier).

Navy Aviation Electronics Tech for about 10 years. Finished up my time as the Quality Assurance Supervisor at a detachment site in northern Japan. Got out as an E-6.

Came in as a Boiler Tech, made Chief, pick up LDO with the 6130 designator (Surface Engineer). My designator was changed to 6149 (Security Officer) for my last five years. Went from E-1 and retired as an O-3E.


Five ships, three shore duties and eleven deployments, with the last one in Iraq in '07.

Cool. My father-in-law was a TACCO/MC on P-3's. He was 30 years USN.
