It does make you think. For some reason my CM9 seems to be a part of me and I am more comfortable with it than my other guns. Guess it goes back to what a very close friend of mine told me one time. "Size doesn't matter all that much. Knowing how to use it does."

I particularly liked the fact that unlike most ballistic test the bullets were recovered from cadavers and not ballistic gel. Somehow that seems like a more realistic test. Makes you think, doesn't it? Brings new meaning to the words test dummy.

I don't totally agree but his treatise does completely destroy the BS that Marshall/Sanow/Pi were crappy the landscape with about their "One Shot Stop" horse puckey.

I had my doubts about the 147gr 9mm bullet, and that video confirmed that the 124 gr bullets performed better. Big and Slow works great on the 45, but not so well on some other calibers. I've read a couple places that the .357 magnum, loaded with 125 gr Remington Golden Sabres was the #1 in one shot stops. It's was about maybe 1 percent more effective than the .45, with 230 gr HP.

I went over to the Remington Ammo site, and I see they are coming out with a compact pistol load. I wonder how it will compare to the other short barrel ammo on the market. There wasn't much info on it, so I don't think it's being produced yet. Keep an eye out for Remington Ultimate Defense Compact Handgun. I may turn out to be a pretty good cartridge for the smaller Kahr pistols. It is to be introduced this year, in 9mm, .40 and .45. (It didn't give the bullet weight). I was a bit surprised there was no .380.
It says it's based on a modified Golden Sabre bullet, designed to mushroom at lower velocities. And still gives at least 12 inches of penetration in 10% ballistic gel. Penetration seems a bit low. But "at least" 12 inches of penetration, doesn't give what the maximum penetration would be.
I imagine +P versions will hit the market if the ammo sells well.

I also found this test between Gold Dot, and Gold Dot Short Barrel ammo, using 3.1 inch barrel S&W M&P Shield pistol. http://mousegunaddict.blogspot.com/2...t-vs-gold.html
The verdict is that the Gold Dot short barrel ammo performed much better out of the 3.1 inch barrel, than the standard Gold Dot ammo.

In short-barreled pistols like the PM9 the 147 actually does better:

Notably his final thought in both was "practice". A missed shot regardless of the bullet or caliber is worthless.

Precisely. A 22 in the eye beats a 44 mag that misses.

Speaking of .22's, I was surprised at how much the .22 magnum has to offer.

I got all these ballistics off the Cheaper than Dirt, ammo description pages.

                            Hornady .22 Magnum Critical Defense
Highest Quality Cases: Silver nickel-plated cases prevent corrosion and are easily visible in low-light situations.

Velocity and Energy from 1-1/7" Pistol Barrel:
                            Muzzle Velocity: 1000 fps
                            Muzzle Energy: 100 ft-lbs
                            50 Yard Velocity: 926 fps
                            50 Yard Energy: 86 ft-lbs
                            100 Yard Velocity: 868 fps
                            100 Yard Energy: 75 ft-lbs

Velocity and Energy from 24" Rifle Barrel

                            100 Yard Velocity: 1222 fps
                            100 Yard Energy: 149 ft-lbs
                            200 Yard Velocity: 980 fps
                            200 Yard Energy: 96 ft-lbs
                            Uses: Self Defense.

Hornady .25ACP Barrel length not given, but I imagine around 2 inches, given most .25 autos are pretty small.
Hornady ammunition with an XTP Jacketed Hollow Point Bullet is what you need to make an impact. This 35 grain bullet ravels at 900 fps and comes in a 25 round box.
                            Muzzle velocity: 900 fps
Velocity at 50 yards: 813 fps
Velocity at 100 yards: 742 fps
                            Muzzle energy: 63 ft/lbs
                            Energy at 50 yards: 51 ft/lbs
                            Energy at 100 yards: 43 ft/lbs
                            Uses: Personal Defense

Hornady XTP Jacketed Hollow Point Bullet .32 ACP (no barrel length given)
                            Bullet Weight: 60 Grains
                            1000 fps at muzzle
                            906 fps at 50 yards
                            834 fps at 100 yards
                            133 ft/lbs. at muzzle
                            112 ft/lbs. at 50 yards
                            96 ft/lbs. at 50 yards
                            Uses: Personal Protection, Law Enforcement

Hornady Critical Defense .380 ACP (no barrel length given)
                            200 ft/lbs. energy muzzle
                            910 fps at 50 yards
                            165 ft/lbs. at 50 yards
                            841 fps at 100 yards
                            141 ft/lbs. at 100 yards

So one of those 8,9 or 10 shot revolvers, in a .22 magnum, might not make that bad of a self defense pistol. I don't know if any of them come in .22 magnum, but if they did, might make a good weapon for someone sensitive to recoil.
