LATEST FBI CRIME DATA CONTINUES TO REFUTE ANTI-GUN RHETORIC, SAYS CCRKBA

BELLEVUE, WA – For the third year in a row, violent crime has declined in
the United States while increasing numbers of American citizens own
firearms and are licensed to carry, a trend that belies predictions of
anti-gunners that more guns will result in more crime, the Citizens
Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said today.

Preliminary data from the FBI's Uniform Crime Report shows that the
violent crime rate went down 5.5 percent in 2009, compared to statistics
from 2008. This covers all four categories of violent crime: murder,
robbery, aggravated assault and forcible rape. Violent crime went down 4
percent in metropolitan counties and 3 percent elsewhere, according to the
    FBI.

At the same time, the agency's National Instant Check System reports
continued increases in the number of background check requests and the
National Shooting Sports Foundation has reported increased federal
firearms excise tax allocations to state wildlife agencies, an indication
that more guns and ammunition are being purchased.

"This translates to one irrefutable fact," said CCRKBA Chairman Alan
Gottlieb. "There are more guns in private hands than ever before, yet
crime rates have declined. In plain English, this means that gun
prohibitionists have been consistently wrong. Higher rates of gun
ownership have not resulted in more bloodshed, as the gun ban lobby has
repeatedly forecast with its 'sky-is-falling' rhetoric.

"According to the FBI," he continued, "the murder rate fell last year 7.2
percent in larger cities. Robbery declined more than 8 percent and
forcible rape was down 3.1 percent. It might just be that criminals are
less likely to attack someone out of fear their intended victim is armed.
Robbers might be discouraged by the growing potential that the clerk
behind the counter is willing to fight back. Maybe would-be rapists are
deterred by the possibility that they might get shot.

"For many years," Gottlieb observed, "anti-gunners made all kinds of wild
predictions that higher rates of gun ownership and the expansion of
shall-issue carry permits would leave neighborhoods awash in blood. The
data proves otherwise. America should turn its back on the gun prohibition
lobby and their insidious policy of victim disarmament."

With more than 650,000 members and supporters nationwide, the Citizens
Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is one of the nation's
premier gun rights organizations. As a non-profit organization, the
Citizens Committee is dedicated to preserving firearms freedoms through
active lobbying of elected officials and facilitating grass-roots
organization of gun rights activists in local communities throughout the
United States. The Citizens Committee can be reached by phone at (425)

It really seems fairly intuitive to me that more law abiding citizens owning guns reduces crime. It's only natural the bad guys would think twice in such a scenario.

I heard about the reduction in violent crime on the news today. However, although they quoted the FBI stats, they said that with the down economy, the rates should be up, and that NO ONE knows why the decrease. I guess they're afraid to ask the right people, as usual.

Bad guys MOST of the time dont want to use force. they are generally pretty cowardly actually. At most, they usually only want to use the threat of force, to make you do what they want you to.

If they even THINK you might fight back, or are armed, more often than not for most common crimes, they will find someone else. Not counting violent crimes where the intent actually is to do harm to begin with (rape, murder etc).

Actually we have all seen it even on cops and such (TV). Robber has a gun. Store owner picks up a champagne bottle or something, and robber runs away. He never intended to use the gun in the first place, and faced with someone who didnt lay down for him just FUBAR his plan.

My uncle who has been a career LEO (undercover, K9, beat, narcotics and now he pilots a Heli) has told me.... and I believe him........ that if a badguy has a gun on you he has already decided if he is going to pull the trigger. NOTHING you do is going to change that more than likely. If he intended to shoot you, you could run, and he still will. If he didnt intend to shoot, you could nearly snatch the gun out of his hand and he woldnt shoot.

I would not test that though

There is truth to that. Most of them do not like resistance. In fact the FBI had a study that shows how much fighting back helps the situation. It broke it down several ways and concluded that in the majority of the times, fighting back, be it armed, armed with improvised weapons, or not armed significantly helped the situation. I read about it in a book about the then new TX CHL laws, and I think John Lott actually found it and uses it in his books (I wish I could claim a relationship to him, but he still spells his name wrong).
Attitude: it takes 43 muscles to frown, 17 to smile...and 3 for proper trigger squeeze.

The olive branch is considered a symbol of peace, and good will. Last time I checked, it's still a switch.

surely, we do not expect to get any credit as being law abiding gun owning citizens that crime is down any. that would be an admistrative defeat to say such a thing.

Crime is down--just because, don't anyone know that????? I bet if they chased those f--king illegals back across the border that crime would drop a hell of alot more even.
. My PM9 has over 34,000+ rounds through it, and runs much better than an illegal trying to get across our border

I for one truely enjoy it when a fella says it like it is. I'm sensing a lot of pent up frustration and I'm glad you were able to vent properly here. I wish I knew the politically correct word for f--king illegals, kind of sensitive to pornigrahic language and stuff, I'm thinking it ain't ******* but then I again have never been associated with anything politically correct either, how I've lasted long as I have in a government position never fails to elude me.
Sometimes wonder how I've lasted long as I have anywhere now that I ponder that. Perhaps it's all about post count as Wynn has suggested? Maybe that is my true calling in life, (someone told me to get a life, reload bullets or clean guns) to take up the chase of those penetrating our not so secure border, with a focus on terrorist and specializing in disarming suicide bombers. I watched Hurt List this weekend so I could be qualified. Loved the theres too many locks, can't help ya, see ya later bye, boom!
