Stupid Range Rules

Every range and every club that I know of in my area, has this exact same rule. Personally, I don't want to be standing next to a spray and pray. Handguns I would allow. You need to have a different area for spray and pray. Most places can't afford that. With all of the Rambo's out there, can you blame them??????????????????

If I am shooting my own weapons I consider this highway robbery and would move on down the road.

That pretty much my point exactly. They ball full auto spray and pray but not rapid fire shooting. Inconsisent logic or a complete lack of logic to many shooters. They recently started refusing permission for steel cased ammo since they sell the brass to a recycler. When I mentioned to the owner they should buy a strong magnet he was not amused.

No sense of humor......................actually to clarify, the ranges around here do not allow ANY fast firing of ANY firearm period. There are some indoor ranges that will allow, if the owner is there, and no other customers are there.

Our indoor ranges have metal guards over the clamps for the target to deflect errant shots, but still have the 1 shot a second rule. You can get away with an occasional double tap, as long as you don't get carried away with them.

I always heard the rapid fire restrictions were incase a shooter along the line had a squib. To help prevent KABOOMS along the range.

The ranges I've gone to around here have no magazine loading restrictions and really don't care about burst fire. They just don't want shooters emptying their mags as fast as they can.

As a RSO, our range applies many of the above listed rules. Rapid fire will cause damage to floors, and ceilings. Preventing this also helps catch squib loads, and in this day of hundreds of new handloaders, they are far more common than I would like to see. We do accept brass and aluminum casings. Magnets pull out all the steel with ease, and we use a sorting table to cull out aluminum cases and loaded rounds that find themselves downrange.
Drawing from a holster is asking for trouble with a carpeted concrete floor so that is forbidden even off hours when we employees are shooting alone.
Handloads are fine and if the patron tells us he/she is saving their brass, our RSO's will make every effort to push as much brass at that particular customer as possible. They inevitably will leave with more than they came in with. Most of our RSO employees are proficient at catching 10mm brass in while still in the air, and saving it for the shooter.

One of the range rangers was testing a fully auto rifle when we were there last. He shot out the overhead lights. Guess it can happen to anyone.

Two ranges in Tampa frown on rapid fire.
But a third new range doesn't mind as long as you demonstrate controlled fire.
That's the only place I shoot these days.

I generally don't rapid fire much.
But occasionally I think there is value in controlled rapid fire training.
And I do not mean spray and pray.
It's more like Center Mass Rolling Thunder.

Plus the other two places wont let me shoot my 10.5" barreled 5.56 AK Suchka pistol on the pistol range.

Having worked for more than a decade at a local and respected range....I think I've got a little bit of qualification to make a response.

We had (no particutlar order)

Two suicides - both with range rentals, one a 41mag the other a 45 auto.

One guy shot a hole in the floor of his 'vette convertable.

One LEO shot himself in the upper groin region barely missing his balls, when he put his loaded Glock in its Glock case, and stuck it in the trunk of his car, and slammed the trunk closed.

One guy shot himself in the leg with something... out in the parking lot.

One guy shot the floor, sending fragments up that injured another shooter

One guy shot his middle finger off (later put back on, a little shorter) closing the lid of his Glock case on his loaded Glock

One guy shot a 10mm into the floor/wall in the outer area of the range.

One LEO shot a round down the counter and into a wall of boxed ammo right in front of the cash register, with his Glock.

And that was on my first day of work! No it wasn't. It was the entire stint. There were no rules on rapid fire, but we had video cams set up so that we could take a look at the folks when we heard some rapid fire. Sometimes we'd have to ask them to slow down if they didn't have skills to support their shooting speed.

But never, once.... ever.... was there an incident because or rapid fire or double taps.

In my youth, side of my dad's '57 Chevy, with a 12 ga., from the inside, trying to let down the hammer softly on a Winchester pump. Yeah, it was loud.

Never saw my mom run so fast out of the house to see what the heck I had done this time.

Well, the guy in question was a Guido wannabe, gold weights on his neck, red 'vette and blond bimbo with bolt on's. He was parked outside the classroom when I got there one Saturday to teach SAFETY for concealed weapons permits.... he didn't want to come inside and wait for class to start. So I went in, set up the room... BANG. I went to the window. His bimbo was screaming at him, pointing to the floor (above the transmission?). I went out. Car shot. Nobody hurt (except his pride). He drove off, didn't take class. Dunno if the transmission was actually perforated or... what.

And this is exactly why I feel that one shot per second rule is CRAP!

I went shooting one day many moons ago at a local indoor range. This range is kind of short and has just seven lanes, really small and cozy. Well it just so happens to be in a somewhat "ethnic" part of town and some shooters I know refuse to go there. Never bothered me though, still stop and shoot there on occasion.
On this day the range was busy and I was given lane three. Set up in my lane, ran out my target and started to load up some 1911 magazines. At my far left, in lane One closest to the wall, was young boudro, in all his tattooed, bad ass "banger" splendor. As I started to load my third mag, boudro hollers something out in (I assume) Spanish, turns his Ruger P85 on it's left side and rapid fired around the range till slidelock. Somewhere in the string I was hit hard in the right foot (big toe) by one of his bullet jackets. Hurt too!
I stepped out of my lane and yelled at the "gentleman" to cease firing and to get his "sheet" together before he shot anyone else.
Boudro stepped back, still clutching his (now empty) Ruger and yelled a useless threat at my "old white ass". I thought that odd, as my 1911 was within reach and my mags were full... but hey, whatever buddy. After Boudro ranted though, the five "old white asses" to my right stepped out of their lanes and as a unified front suggested ol boudro Ummm, "get lost". He seemed to get the message, he grabbed up his stuff and scampered away to more banger friendly places...
Had one heck a bruised toe and kept the offending jacket for several years as a souvenir. So my big toe thinks that some restrictions on rapid fire are understandable, but I'm happy to report the same range guys never give me any hassle about double/triple taps on that range.
After all, I do make it look easy...
