  • CM9 Needs to Move Out of Break-in Period

I just picked up my final 100 rounds of 9mm hardball break-in ammo and will complete the break-in period this week. I decided to use 600 rounds during break-in prior to moving into defensive ammo testing.

Would appreciate ammo recommendations. My primary desire at this point is to identify 2-3 defensive rounds that go through the CM9 like butter. I intend to use 50 rounds of each of these during range testing and then down select to one of them for continued testing.

Any 9mm favorites out there that flow through like butter?

I had very good luck with PMC hardball.

Mine has done fine with all the JHPs I've fed it. CorBon 115DPX, Speer 124+p Gold Dot, Rem 124+p Golden Saber, Black Hills 115EXP and 124+P, Speer 115 GD, Win 115 jhp,Rem 115 jhp etc. Haven't tried any 147 gr loads though.

Speer gold dots and hornady critical duty work well in mine.
The only thing better than having all the guns and ammo you'd ever need would be being able to shoot it all off the back porch.

I carry Federal HST 124gr. in mine. Eats 'em just fine. Lots of good 9mm choices out there.

I use Golden Sabre because they come 25 in a box instead of 20. Please forgive me for being frugal. I tend to think they are all pretty good...although some guns seem to prefer one over the other. You can only tell that by testing for yourself.

I just got done checking the ammo reviews and the Golden Sabre's looked good. I needed to order ammo on-line because the shops located near me didn't have the ammo selection that I had hoped for. I only wanted to place a single order to save on shipping and the store I ordered from didn't have any CorBon 115 DPX or the Federal HST in stock; CorBon seems hard to come by. Following are the three brands I ordered to try out.

Remington 9mm Golden Saber 124 Grain JHP

CCI Speer 9mm 124 Grain +P Gold Dot

Federal 9mm Luger 115 Grain JHP

              Thanks for the recommendation everyone!

Me too. Golden Sabre is 25/box AND is very reasonably priced to begin with. I also like Hornady Critical Defense which is also 25/box and reasonably priced as well (except for .45acp which comes 20/box).

                  I've always preferred HST's and GS's.

124 grain standard pressure HST. Good test results feeds well and a great bullet

Check out SGAMMO.com. You can get 50 rd. boxes of HST or GD for what some places want for 20 rd. boxes. I think standard pressure HST 124 gr is $25.95 for 50 rd box.

I too settled on Federal HST 124 grain for my CM9. Not only have the ballistic tests looked great out of 3" barrels, I also found them in stock locally. All ammo has fed flawlessly through my CM9 though.
