PM9, LCR, etc....stolen

Well folks, with sadness and dismay, I must report that my PM9j and 2nd new, and yet unfired LCR 357 have been stolen, and along with it, a Seiko Diver's watch.

At my GF's house. She has a boarder. The boarder had a co-worker over, who we now know had an additction issue, and was fired..... grabbed the guns and watch. I know exactly who did it.

All the info given to the cops.... etc. Detectives will proceed.

The boarder is 1 month away from the end of his probation for.... ta-dah... stealing in stolen items. How she took him in, I'll never know. He wants to make restitution, feels responsible. So he says. I'm out $1500 worth of stuff. I'd like restituion. Then I'd like to throw his butt out the door.

Gimme some guidance here. The "friend" has fallen off the planet so it seems.

My thought is - the boarder has his hand in it, knowingly or not, because he invited the real theif over. I know the real theif was the co-worker. I cannot divulge exactly how, but he and I had a discussion about carrying. I mentioned to him some information that only he would know from me. Using that information, he got the Kahr. The watch and LCR were opportunistic.

Again..... gimme some guidance folks.... I'm not wanting to let some blood spill... yet.

I feel your pain. Had a daylight home breakin in 1993 by "friends" of our youngest son who cased the house during a visit. Insurance payment was $18,000, but it wrecked my wife for years.

Make sure the detectives know the whole scenario and follow up. My experience as a victim with the "justice" system is that it sucks and is anything but just. As for the GF, I'd be looking for another.

The GF stays. She's blamless, although clueless and too trusting. She felt she needed to rent the room in order to make ends meet.

The boarder REALLY wants to pay me restitution and make it all go away. Thats too weird. Unless his hand is deep into it. He also does not want any trouble since he is on probation for about another month or so.

I'm thinking - get the restituion and a little more for my trouble. Then kick his ass out. If I see his "friend" again.... I will remain calm. Very calm.

Sadly guns stay out of sight unless the dirtbag pawns them. If your local PD has Leads On Line they can flag those guns and the watch and if it's pawned anyplace they will get a notice.

I'd try to stay in touch with the officer that took the report. Probably won't even make it to a detective, don't know how your agency is laid out. They may already have other things going on that guest and can add this to the list.

I'd persist in trying to locate the stuff via the police regardless of what the boarder wants to do. If he's renting a room you know he ain't got 1500 bucks to restitute you without stealing from somebody else.

Officer on scene said since it was double handgun theft, detectives would be on it.

The boarder started spewing his ****, so I voice recorded it.... dunno if that will directly help.

I don't expect to ever see the guns or watch again. I think I'll take the money. Not sure where he'll get it, but he pays $725 a month rent for a bed/bath suite.

And the real #@$@#$ is that I been working on his bicycle for him, changing tires and such... because he's a putz. Can't drive - license taken. On probation. Officer found some weed in his room, didn't do anything except berate him a bit. However officer put the fear o God into him about the serial numbers and perpetual listing in database. This guy's scared bigtime. He may bolt. I'd rather get the money first!

Waitin' for the GF to get back from work. Somehow we gotta work this out to her favor too.

I can only say that most people make their own bad luck by making poor life decisions. Being a Navy man I can also say that loose lips sink ships. When not in your immediate possession your guns and valuables should be locked up in a safe. I'm not picking on you CJB and I feel your pain.The two things that I detest the most are liars and thieves, but you set yourself up for a fall and you should have known better. Lesson learned, trust no one. That's just the way it is. I hope that your friend learned a lesson as well.

Sorry to read about your guns and watch being stolen and the situation in which you find yourself.

Here in Connecticut you could also be in trouble because it reads like your handguns weren't on your person or secured. They may have been but I just didn't read that in your post.

Not trying to sound self righteous but I'd be praying (I already have) that no innocent person gets hurt by either of those two stolen guns.

You are in a bad situation and so is your girlfriend. How long has this dirt bag been living at your girlfriends house? He is probably a doper too (or a dealer). Resition will come by him stealing from someone else to pay you. My guess he will want to pay you in installments and disappear before long before he pays up. Do you live at the same house? Where were your guns at the time of theft? This situation is going to go from bad to worse.

If my girlfriend had taken in a male border with a criminal record who is on probation, I think that I'd be looking for another girlfriend. Just sayin.

My son left his handgun at a classmate's apartment for safe keeping. I don't know why he did that since he had his own apartment. The "friend" got into a dispute with my son and refused to return the handgun. Fortunately for my son, his landlord is a police officer. The landlord went over to my son's ex-friend's apartment and took the handgun. My son was very lucky he got the handgun back. Experiences are often harsh teachers. I hope you get your property back.

I think I got a snowballs chance in hell of seeing anything again. To that end, before the ink was dry on the report, I'd already ordered replacements from Buds. Great country we live in.... order ammo from your phone at the bar, order some handguns from your easychair at 2:30 am.

I've got to get the PM9 serial number to the LEO's Monday. The Ruger was still in its box, unfired - left the box and the serial number on it, so that's already in the system.

This happened Tuesday. Nobody's seen "the kid" since then. I am wondering how to act, what to do, when I see him.

The boarder wants to pay, and I want to take his money.

Take all his money you can get now, kick the dude to the street. Change the locks on all doors, arm the GF and get a restraining order on both boarder and friend and if they show up outside, call the cops, if they force their way in....... well, you know.

I gotta agree with Muggsy- be careful who you talk to, about whatever, and who's nearby... I am always carrying off-duty, but I don't tell even close friends (those who don't carry) that I am. Unexpected results can occur...

Take the money and if he doesn't come up with it, call his Probation Officer, I work with a lot of them and ANYTHING involving stolen firearms, he is looking at new charges and serious prison time.
