Your gun, with a barrel twice the length of Jerry's, is heavier and may not bark like his does. Give it a whirl. Or, send it to me, and I'll test drive it for you.

Yeah I figured it wouldn't be as bad as the shortys, for some reason when I head out to shoot I forget that I even have it & just grab others.
maybe if I sit some of my 500 ammo in front of my others, it might help me remember when heading out. LOL

Hey you got the gun you have to shoot it, it might have a little bark you may have fun with it the one way to find out is to load it up. So anyway here is hickok45 view on it. And if you hand load you can tune it down a bit

Shoot your 500. You are missing a lot of fun. It will surprise you, it is not really that big of a deal recoil wise.

Now, if you want recoil, grab hold of a 340pd snubbie loaded with five rounds of 180 gr. Buffallo Bore cast .357's

THAT will test one's sensitivity to recoil. The good news is, rapid fire is not going to happen.

That is one SOLID grip, but even still I bet that hurt!
Judging by today's left wing, looks like Senator Joe McCarthy was right after all.

Used to rapid fire my S&W 620-2 4" Mountain Gun with 240 gr Federal Hydra-Shoks.
At ~50 rounds my hand would be bleeding and I'd have to stop.
                  I'm no Jerry Miculek.
                  And a 44 Mag isn't a .50 S&W.
But my shots were mostly center mass - LOL.

am I wsrong here but could Jerry Miculek be sick, as he has sure lost alot of weight. I realize he is no spring chicken but I never remember him that slimmed down. Nice guy to, just a hell of a shooter with a wheel gun...

they say that smith 500 is one hel of a fence post guin. Farmer just pullup where they want a post, shoot one shot in the grouond with that 500, insert post, tamp down and move to the next post hole. Very veristal gun really.. Just sayin

Brown should be glad he was not shot with a 500 smith, as they would still be looking for his body.
. My PM9 has over 34,000+ rounds through it, and runs much better than an illegal trying to get across our border

I think maybe if I were in griz or Kodiak bear country, I might want to pack one or maybe the .460, but other than that, the .44 magnum is plenty of gun for me.
I'm ready to switch guns after 2 or 3 cylinders of full power .44 self defense magnum loads. A glove with a padded palm does help quite a bit.
