  • Sleep easy boys and girls.

Me and the wife just dropped off our youngest son at the Marine recruiter office. They haul him down to Seattle and put him up in a motel tonight and then off to San Diego in the morning for basic training.

Moms of course taking it a bit rough, her last baby and favorite I think of the bunch.

I'm sad that I can't go with him, wouldn't take me 40 years ago, and still won't take me today..........

Guess we'll be heading down late April to watch him transition from devil pup to devil dog....................

Sad that he has to have a poser in chief and probably a poserette in chief. I told him to do what he's told except for the head dude and hope he never has to meet him or her in person.

My officer's commission carried Nixon's signature. Still having trouble getting past that.

He is a patriot. We need them. We depend on them. God Bless all of them.

Know the feeling. My oldest daughter entered the Army Reserve last year. Mom was mad I didn't talk her out of it. I figured if any of my kids can follow my footsteps, its her. Wait till she tells Mom she is going to try to be Trooper......I might be living in the camper for a while.

Encourage Mom to keep the faith.

The 4 plus years of my service as a Marine (1962-1966) are among the most memorable of my life. Positive lessons learned have served me well throughout my life. I'm sure that will likewise be the case for your son. Please let him know that this 70 year old former Marine wishes him the best.
