  • M855 sells out

BATFE has announced it will try (or already has tried) to get M855 ammo classified as armor piercing, and banned.

Everyone I know selling it, has sold out in 24 hours.

Well, thats ONE thing Obummer did for the economy......

Then use M193. How many helmets do you need to penetrate, anyway?

The rub with this is that it has been relatively cheap, allowing those of us who want to train with the real military grade ammo to do so. I see this as a clear effort by the administration to further disarm citizens by targeting the dominant self-defense rifle platform in use by civilians. It will also increase costs for LEAs that want to train with military-grade ammo. Never doubt that this administration and its agents in the ATF leadership have an agenda and it is not to promote our freedom.

All the newer barrels are higher twist rates. You shoot M193 in those and you're over stabilizing things. The higher twist rate barrels worked well with the M855 and vice versa.

I'll shoot the M193, I guess I have to now, because I'm not shooting the M855 I've got stockpiled.

I read the NRA news article today about the BATFE considering a "ban" on M855 LAP ammo. Went to Academy this morning and bought 300 rounds. If the gubmint doesn't want me to have any, well that's reason enough to buy some. I've only shot M193 ball ammo so far in my AR. I may just stockpile what I bought today until we see how this plays out.

I've got 1000 rounds of Federal Lake City green tip.
They fit nicely in a 50 Cal ammo can - LOL.

Was going to use them for target practice.
                Now - maybe not...

Isn't target shooting a legitimate sporting purpose?

Apparently, the XM855 IS M855 but didn't military standards. OH live and learn. I thought that XM was substandard. My bad. Friends gain.

I thought the XM was substandard too, it isn't? We got a lot of that for training ammo at the dept.

                              Funny thing here...

When I was in the military we always thought the ammo we shot wasn't nearly as good as what was available on the open market. You know, lowest bidder and all. The only thing we could shoot was ball ammo and 00 buckshot, usually produced by the gov't and not from commercial sources.

Now, it seems, the military ammo seems to be better than what I can get off the shelf or order??? Add to the effect that the gov't doesn't produce much if any ammo today. So maybe that is the difference today?
