    Can't imagine why..

I've spent half my adult life in the DC area despite never having lived there a day. Forty two consecutive years of Dulles...a personal record on the cusp of being consigned to history come December this year.

That a brem, more commonly know as a bluegill. A common fish in lakes. So your already planning on enjoying the boat, eh?

They want to leave a lot of stuff(not junk)behind, riding lawnmower, compressor, push mower, furniture, kitchen stuff, appliances, beds, deck furniture, etc. They wanted a higher offer because they had a very nice pontoon boat in the garage, and there are many lakes to use one on. Then I remembered............the second happiest day is when you buy a boat, the first happiest is when you sell it........told them no dice on the boat...........if I was 25, maybe.................................3 bed, 2 bath, 32' x 48' pole barn, on 2.76 acres, with nothing but trees behind the property for miles. Take the pontoon boat and send it to me. Been longing for one I can roll around on, great for bass fishing. Put a play pen on it for the granddaughter.
I leave for the annual trip next weekend, so put a rush on it.......please.

No, that's a berm.................a pile of dirt that you can use for a backstop for shooting. Living up here, I've had/caught my share of gills, and pumpkin seeds, and rock bass, and large mouth, and small mouth, and northern, and crappie, and bull head, and drum, and dogfish, walleye, and....well, you get the idea............

As a yonker I had a blast catching blue gill out of a pond on my granddads farm. Great fun till one day I stumbled onto a Water Mocassin. Weren't near as much fun after that, I was to busy looking for snakes to fish much.

Now iffen I had a nice pontoon boat my troubles would be over.

Actually that pond weren't more tthan 100 feet or so round, didn't need a boat THEN.

Now days my fishing is on a switch, for 10 days or so every year I turn into a Bass/trout assassin, then the switch is throwed and don't give much thought to fishing at all, or snakes neither for that matter.

I used to fish 3 or 4 times a week..................mostly for largemouths. Had a chance to fish for smallmouths up in the DOOR...........one of the best spots in the world for smallies on Sturgeon Bay. 5 & 6 pounders are small potatoes. We were up there last year when the Professional Bass Classic was there. 2 day tournament, 5 fish per day limit............the team that won had a 2 day total of 10 fish@ 68# something total. No boats for this guy. I'd have to get trailer hitches on the cars, and I don't want to pull anything with a car. I believe that they may have accepted our offer. The boats are sayonara.............sorry, you know I'd help you out if I could. They really are a PITA though, better to rent one or borrow one, or fish off of the shore. I've caught my biggest fish from shorelines................as far as smallies, the biggest was a 6.9 pounder, 24", out of the St. Croix River, biggest largemouth was out of a private pond, 23" 7.6 pounds............I'd love to fish for largemouth in the Glades, or down south.............they get REALLY big down there..................................

I just love you guys!!! Sittin round the fire sippin yer coffee and bull shitt'n bout things. Feels good.

Many years ago, I bought a super nice large retirement lot in the mountains that was kinda flat, lots of pines, and easy to build on - lake about a mile away. Planned out a nice house and would even go up on weekends and stretch out the hammock. Loved it. Before we got to the point of building my wife started needing regular medical treatments (3X week) in town about 90 minutes away from there. Over time it became a thing of living near doctors and family. Sold the lot and miss it, but got over it.

While you guys can still do it I suggest don't put it off. Like my dad told me when my son was a pup, don't wait to put in a pool till he's grown. Some things you just gotta do while you can enjoy them.

                          Edit:
Couldn't help looking to see how it is now: Google Maps 37.082304 -119.317415 It was just a lot with trees then, now the whole place is built up.

Amen. I fear it's getting too late for us to move too far out too. Between potential medical, I have a wife that doesn't plan ahead and needs a trip to town nearly daily.
If I didn't have to work, I'd never go to town myself.

Another strong endorsement of my retire at age 45 plan. You get a lump sum and a monthly benefit, you retire for 7 to 10 years. Then you go back to your job and work till you can no longer work.

Travel, drive your motorhome while you can still see and not use a walker. Great for the economy with foolish young people spending money foolishly, great for traffic safety.
Too late for me but maybe in the future or in my next life. Course I predict my next life I'll be a mudflap on a Peterbilt.

We made sure that there was a large medical facility within driving distance(6 miles) and we are near some larger towns. The population of our town is approx. 800 give or take. It's where we plan to kick the proverbial bucket. In the mean time, I'm hoping to shoot the #e!! out of something......................................... .could have bankrupted ourselves, but, it's only money, and you can't take it with you.

In one of the earlier recessions I was out of work and finally landed a job as superintendent of a small church camp way up in the woods. We lived in a small log cabin - for real - that had been added onto over 100 years and fixed up a bit inside, but that didn't begin to slow down the small bugs. Even had a big sow squirrel living in the attic over the winter. The last ones other than us left while they could before the big snows and we were the only ones within 5 miles that I know of. My son was about waist high and I could take him most anywhere so he sat on my shoulders as we walked through the snow, spent a lot of time on a big ole toboggan. I was installing water heaters in guest cabins so I made him a really cool submarine out of a box with a tower and everything. We visited "Kit Carson's" cabin (not really) and snuck up on indians during my slack time.

I absolutely loved being away from society and walking in the woods. So quiet you could hear all the critters and watch the deer and bandits scurrying around. Equally as much as I loved it, my wife hated it! She had cabin fever within a couple weeks and got a lot of hand sewing done over time. It was seeing my spending the day with our son instead of away in an office the let her stick it out.

Finally Spring came and the economy improved and I got a normal paying job in the city so we left. We visited a few times but it just wasn't the same. Reminds me of one of those sayings that "you may find where you really want to live but won't be able to afford it when you do."

                                Edit:
Couldn't help looking up this one either. The cabin is kinda hidden under the trees and the camp (Camp Sierra CA) looks worse for wear but it was quite a spell ago. Google Maps 37.193932 -119.259023
