I have been burning up a lot of 9mm ammo on Tuesdays at the range, and that got me thinking (which is dangerous in itself), so I've been looking at .22's. Everything I find has about 10 round mags, so here it comes, ....wait for it........... You already know, don't you?....Since they can put 17 rounds of 9mm in a magazine, and since lots of people like to plink with a .22, why hasn't someone come up with a mag that holds maybe 24 rounds? If it could be done, then someone would probably have already done it, so I'm sure there is a perfectly good reason, but that's why I'm asking. I saw this big .22 drum, but that's way over the top. Just give us a 24 round mag and it would probably make a lot of plinkers happy. Tell me how I'm all wet.

Isn't that what a BX25 mag is for a 10-22? As far as pistols, the Kel-Tec PMR 30 holds 30 rounds of .22 magnum. I don't have one, but I don't believe it feeds as reliably as a 10-22 with the BX25 magazines. I'm sure others well weigh in.

Trouble with high capacity in a range pistol is (for me at least) muscle fatigue trying to hold it up for 18 or so precisely aimed shots. If I set it down to rest, might as well change mags or refill them.
If I'm fending off a zombie brigade that's less of an issue.

The single biggest reason for the 10 round .22 magazine being the standard are the magazine size limits in the large costal states. Be they east or be they west, these highly populated states would at the least outlaw the magazines and at worse outlaw the firearm.
Ten round rimfire magazines in .22's will sell in all but the dumbest of states...I was once asked if I was "a paranoid for carrying my Kahr".
"Nope" I said, "just prepared".
" prepared for what" he asked?
"more stuff than you are"

And the RIM is the reason there are no double stack 22 mags.
Same reason for the odd grip angle.
