What are some good gun magazines you guys subscribe to? I'd like to get a subscription or two. Which ones do you like? Dislike? I'd prefer that it not be all advertisements.

I've heard many talk against them, but I like Gun Reports. I just subscribed to Guns & Ammo and Handguns because of the great offer I got on cost ($15 for 24 issues (2 yrs) G&A and 7.50 for 6 issues (1 yr) Handguns). I also get American Rifleman from the NRA.

I like GunTest. They don't accept advertising, they buy all their test guns off the street like the rest of us, so they don't use a loaned gun like the slick papered mags. Cost more but they also don't feel obligated to tell you a gun that may pay for advertising is good when it's not. They don't hold much back either. If it's junk they tell you.
I also get Guns and Ammo and Riflemen. I still miss Elmer Keith and Jeff Cooper.

          Gun mags-the reading kind

I have tried most all over the years. IMO Combat Handguns

is the best for handguns. Also Gun Test. G&A years ago

ran a test of a gun and it was either BS or a worked on one from

factory. The gun was terrible IMO. I will not name it, not in

          business anymore.

I have a subscription to Combat Handguns. It has nothing to do with the military really. In addition to the usual gun and ammo reviews, the magazine has something that a lot of the others don't have. The others sometime have this but this magazine always has this in every issue. It always has a section on self-defense stories. It also has articles on self-defense and the law. It has several case studies of self-defense shooting going to court and explains what went right or wrong. I think Ayoob writes this particular article. There are also several articles on training & tactics (what I call shooting lessons and scenarios).

Go here and look at the magazine covers and see what I am talking about

that looks like a good one, deadhead. I'm much more into hand guns than rifles or shotguns, etc.

thanks to all for your suggestions. I'll research them a little more and hopefully order a couple of them shortly.

                      American Handgunner and SWAT Magazine.

Of course, I buy nearly everything else off the rack.

That's what I read too. Lots of good info on everyday, normal handguns. Jeff Cooper lives on in this magazine.

Gun Test is a good, honest effort at objectivity, but they are inconsistant at times, though overall I like the mag.
Judging by today's left wing, looks like Senator Joe McCarthy was right after all.

American Handgunner does the same thing, and they be stable mates at FMG. The only other thing I would add is Shotgun News, and those are pretty much all I read magazine wise.

Best magazine reccomendation? Hands down the Glock Happy Stick! 33 rounds of 9mm yummy shootie goodness. On the other hand, I no longer buy any of the newstand magazines. Same articles by different authors (and sometimes the same authors) for the past 20 years. I'm also sick unto death of newest/prettest/deadlyest 1911 gun of the month. I used to get combat handguns but when they got rid of Ed Lovett and Walt Raush I lost all interest. My $ now goes to ammo and training with Saurez International. Also wanted to add that I have a stack of combat handguns about 2 feet high with about one article marked with a post it note. Got tired of buying a magazine for one article.
