  • $900 later at the gunshow...

    Sooooo...
My brother and I decided to go to go to the Fort Worth gunshow today, just because. I needed some .44 special ammo to feed the Bulldog and to spend some good time with my brother. Late in the process, the wives decided to join us. I thought, well ok, my wife wants a Ladysmith revolver and today we can find that.

It was 10 bucks to park, 18 for us to enter, 4 bucks for the fancy cherry balls, a 10 dollar donation to the wounded vets organization, a 2 dollar candy bar from the eight year old girl so she could go to church camp, 73 bucks for my 44ammo and 900 bucks for the wife's little find.

This is Birdie, a very finely breed English cocker spaniel gundog. She should start training to flush and retrieving dove/quail in about 18 months...

we picked the Birdie name as we will submit her papers as "Lady Bird covey flusher". I suggested calling her Coonan as that's what she cost me... but that was rejected.

I was once asked if I was "a paranoid for carrying my Kahr".
    "Nope" I said, "just prepared".
" prepared for what" he asked?
    "more stuff than you are"

Cool dog! Not a bad way to spend 900 bucks, certainly worst ways.

Don't know why exactly, but I really want one of those Coonan 357s.
Seems like Underwood 357 Sig pretty much duplicates 357 Magnum.
      So I got a Sig P229 instead.
Still like the look of those Coonans.

My in-laws had a Springer they had to put down earlier in the year and said they will soon be looking for another. We had a Brittany that we lost a few years ago and I told the wife come the first of the year I'll be looking to get another dog as we lost our German Sheppard almost a year ago. I want to wait until I'm not longer working and after I'm done hunting as I want to be home to properly raise and train the dog. Still a bit torn between either a Brit, a Sheppard or a mutt.

Anyways, great looking pup and may you both have many, many wonderful years together chasing them birds!

Only reason we bird hunt is to enjoy the dogs. Great looking pup, wishing you many years of fun with it!

Congrats on the find. Much better accidental use of $900 than fer just a stupid, additional gun.

The most loved dog I ever had was a Britney. Stupid ass dig, but I loved it.

Yeah, it's been a heck of a weekend.

Friday night, I would have set the chances that our wives would choose to go to the show at 10% or less. Now if that night, you had handed me a note pad and asked me to "write down ten things your wife might buy at the gunshow and not be a gun..." I'm here to tell you "Dog" would not have made the list "Hot... with mustard" or otherwise! Their was the one guy at the show, with just the two pups. He is a breeder, trainer and avid bird hunter. Our little Birdie is certainly a"Field bred" Cocker.

We recently lost our beloved Jack Russell Terrier, Derringer (the most apt name for a dog ever!) after his long battle (with what amounted to) dog MS. We finally had to put him down and that was the toughest day we ever had. As time has past, we talked about another dog, I wanted a working dog, from a good breeder, the wife said all my choices were too large for her. My wife wanted a small dog again, but not another Jack as little Darry can never be replaced. We seemed a bit far apart on what breed fit this older version of us. Frankly, I never would have looked at English Cocker gun dogs, but... here we are. My wife thinks it was the good Lord putting that dog in front of her, meeting both our ideals, on that day.

                            Time will tell.

I do know that picking up a S&W Ladysmith (and a "New York reloader" too) would have still been cheaper!

She is a cutie, and she already retrieves a ball, most times. Not bad at eight weeks old and with us less than two days. I hope we have a long time together.
