Break In

Hello,

Just purchased a new CW 9. Curious what is the correct/best way to break this pistol in and does that coincide with what Kahr recommends ? What have viewer's found that works best. Thanks

Unlike new rifles that have a prescribed break in procedure for barrels, pistols don't require anything special other than to use the correct ammunition and maintenance.

Use factory ammunition or factory equivalent reloads if you're a reloader. Be sure to read your manual regarding the recommended types of ammunition for your pistol. Do not shoot high velocity, high pressure ammunition unless your manual tells you it is safe to do so. If in doubt, contact Kahr Customer Service for advice.

Learn to disassemble and reassemble your pistol for cleaning. Make it a habit to clean and lubricate your pistol after each use e.g. after every range session. Most firearm problems are due to the lack of proper maintenance. Just about all gun solvents and lubricants on the market today will do and I cannot say any one product is heads above all others. Get yourself a pistol cleaning kit. Most cleaning kits are caliber oriented so since you have a 9 mm, get a 9 mm cleaning kit. Use only bronze phosphorous cleaning brushes which are gentle on bores. Steel brushes are harder on bores.

Other than that, all I can say is take your new pistol to your local range and start shooting. If you come across any specific problems, bring them back to the forum. Lots of us will be happy to help.

there was a sticky on break in......

How I do it(I got this from this forum)

1)break it down and clean it reassemble
2) rack the gun 300 to 500 times. I needed gloves to do so
3) break it down and clean it reassemble
4) run 300 new factory rounds through it. Clean it.
5) if it ran well toward the end of the 300 rnds you are good to go. If not run some more through it(300).

It took around 600+ rnds for my P40 and P45 to run well FWIW

Clean and oil the new gun, Go buy your self 3 or 4 boxes of factory 9mm ammo, and gk have some fun. There should be no problems. You got you a good gun there.

Make sure to read and reread the Proper Prep of a New Kahr sticky and the Kahr Lube Diagram sticky.

Follow all those instructions and you shouldn't have any problems. I field stripped my CW9 and CT380 enough in the first few days that I no longer need a tool to pop out the slide lock pin. Soon I'll be able to do it without looking at the marks.

so far I have had mixed results as I progress thru my breakin period.in 100 rounds of hardball I had one failure of the slide to lock open on the last round.in 21 rounds
of federal hst 180 gr hollow points I had 7 failures to feed a round from the magazine when the slide locked back as if it was on an empty magazine.i will continue to keep shooting until the hst's either function or try other hollow points until I find what it likes.my gun is the TP 40 and so far I really like it.
