  • AK47 wielding robber gets a Texas version of Pulp Fiction at Waffle House in DeSoto,

(Desoto is on the south side of Dallas)

Bad guy walks into Waffle House (forgets this is Texas and doesn't disarm patrons) robs it and leaves; gets called out in the parking lot and shot down.

DeSoto police are hoping the public can help them identify the suspect in an aggravated robbery at a Waffle House last week.

About 2:30 a.m. Thursday, police were called to the Waffle House in the 1500 block of North Beckley Avenue, where they found a man shot in the parking lot.

Customers told police that the man had come into the restaurant, armed with an AK-47, and robbed numerous people as well as the business.

One customer, who was legally carrying a concealed handgun, followed the robber into the parking lot because he was afraid for the safety of his wife, who was on her way to the Waffle House.

The customer called out to the robber, who turned and pointed the rifle at him, police said. The customer then shot the robber several times.

The robbery suspect was taken to a hospital, where he is on life support.

Police said the customer was not arrested.

Police are seeking the public's help in identifying the robbery suspect. He is described as a black man, 25 or 26 years old, who is 6-1 or 6-2 and 180 to 190 pounds. Police released pictures of the man's distinctive tattoos.

Anyone with information about the man is asked to call police at 469-658-3000 or 972-223-6111.

Doubt they will show up - Desoto is almost 70% black, so the conceal carry holder is likely of that same demographic.

Pretty stupid though - to chase after a perp with an AK when you're only totin' a handgun.

It Texas they don't call that stupid, they call that heroism.

My hats off to the cowboy that outsmarted and overcame the robber. Hope nobody causes him any legal grief.

Got to hand it to the patron - seems well conceived to justify his use of deadly force both by following the robber using the purpose of protecting loved ones outside the establishment, and then ensuring the robber turned to point his rifle in his direction. Without calling ethics into question, he seems to be in decent legal standing. Hope he doesn't see any civil litigation. Interesting scenerio.

Funny, Waffle House here has a no gun sign on the door. I don't eat there any longer since food and service was bad anyway but no one checked my pockets when I went in.
The only thing better than having all the guns and ammo you'd ever need would be being able to shoot it all off the back porch.

Oh, he'll be no-billed. Too bad the perp is costing the taxpayers a bundle in hospital bills - unless his Obamacare covers it all.

In Texas, justified use of deadly force = civil immunity!

The only problem I see is he announced his presence. He would know where I was WHEN THE BULLET HIT HIM, no warnings for armed robber scumbags.

Good thinking pj guy, but you would end up in jail for shooting the guy in the back where I live. He is leaving without hurting anyone so how do you justify? The guy did it right. Take careful aim and when you call out to him and he turns shoot him before he knows where you are or that you have a gun. This guy was really on top of it.
