We play a mix of classic rock, outlaw country, blues and some originals. There's a little sample here... https://youtu.be/nPvUmlnqTdY

I'm kind of excited, I just bought a Sergio Zepeda classical. Hand made in Masaya, Nicaragua. I knew about these years ago but on our many trips there I never had a chance to check them out. Finally did!

the shop has a tiny showroom, with maybe 10-15 guitars. I knew there were pricing tiers but I also didn't want to be bound by budget constraints, so I looked them over and saw three that kind of called out to me. Of those, one was clearly superior so I gently took it off it's wall peg an examined it. Mahogany neck, spruce top, cypress back and sides. Rich tone, nice action, no fret buzz. The frets were dressed beautifully. I was sure this was it but wanted to give the others a chance. Oh, and it lacked a price tag.

the lower priced ones were good, but not as refined. They had a short necked cutaway that I liked, but I didn't want a shorty.

Ok, how much, I asked. Six hundred dollars. Damn, I was afraid of that. I had hoped $300 would buy me a good one; the others Inliked were about $150. My wife said to go for it. We didn't come 1200 miles to buy a cheap guitar. As I was trotting out to the car for the hard shell case I'd brought down, my wife talked the nice sales lady into a final price of $580. It's easily worth 2-3x that. Lifetime warranty - as long as Señor Zepeda lives, he'll fix it.

I'm going to bite my nails all the way home, hoping it survives the airline flight!

Sounds like I am not the only guy with the affliction. Motorcycles, guns, guitars and I also like to sail. In the guitar world , I have 3. An old 60's era Arai accoustic that is probably ready for the scrap heap. A 1994 Hamer (US made) Daytona which is a strat clone, and lastly, an Epiphone Wildkat. The Wildkat is my expiremental guitar. I have replaced the wiring harness, switch and pots plus the pups. It now sounds great. Action is perfect. Very impressive for a cheap chinese guitar ($350 NIB). I am currently playing through an Orange CR60 amp. I use a Boss ME50 for effects. Wife recently bought me a Boss RC3 looper pedal I have been playing with lately. That is a fun toy. I used to play in bands when I was younger and have playedboth overseas and in the US. Was never really very good at it. I still play but just for myself. I am into Blues style music although, like rock and country.

                        • ^^^ very nice. And quite the collection of pedals too... A buddy of mine has one of them little Yamaha amps and loves it...recommends it highly. I'm kinda liking the looks of that Blackstar setup myself. Enjoy!

                          • Thanks, I'm happy with the setup.

I was initially thinking the Artisan 15H would be great for bedroom levels.. but even when set at 5w, I'm sure it can be heard for blocks. But i like it loud (the wife, not so much)

Yamaha has some impressive THR demo videos on youtube. It's equally impressive with my modest skills; for a low volume/practice/travel amp, i don't think it gets any better.

                            • Not mine, but my Son-in-law has started fooling with cigarbox guitars. I bought him 90% the parts to build one for Christmas and this is what he put together.

                              Sounds good too.

I was once asked if I was "a paranoid for carrying my Kahr".
                              "Nope" I said, "just prepared".
" prepared for what" he asked?
                              "more stuff than you are"
                              God Bless our Troups!
