  • K9 ported barrel... No longer on kahr's website

So I decided to hold off on buying one earlier this year to find a 1911 build and now that I have the funds to go and buy the ported barrel for my k9, they don't have it on their website anymore...

Just my luck. I really wanted one. I'm just getting around to building my k9 the way I want it and now I can't get the main thing that I wanted to get...

Any other place I can find one?

You can always go with Magnaport, the experts on porting.

Never actually had that done to one of my guns. Since this is a duty weapon, I would like to be able to switch back and fourth but that may be my only option of kahr never makes any more of those barrels...

Using Magnaport, you can still have 2 barells and switch back and forth. You will just have some slots in the slide. I have been using Maganaport for many years with good results.

I may end up having to go that route... I was hoping to avoid cutting the slide though...

I did read somewhere that the T9 barrels are interchangeable with the K9. Maybe I could get one of those and have it ported.

I'd call Kahr Customer Service directly.
Ask for a replacement K9 ported barrel.
I've gotten discontinued Hk parts from HK Customer Service that way.
Bought a discontinued Hk P2000SK 357 Sig barrel using this technique.

                Good Luck!

That's good advice! Thanks! I'm going to send them an email right now and see what I can get them to dig up for me

Just got an update from kahr... Bad news for me. They are no longer getting ported k9 barrels from the factory.

I'm still thinking about getting a ported barrel for my new black P40. An extra half-inch or so and a little help with recoil won't hurt. The ported barrels aren't anywhere as bright as the ports before the front sight. I don't even notice the flash on the P9.

I hope that they continue with the ported and threaded barrels. I wouldn't mind a threaded one for my P9, but I've been running up the VISA buying magazines and other goodies to sell at the next gun show the 19th and 20th. If Hillary wins there'll be panic buying for sure. I really don't want to see that!

I wanted more mags and ammo for myself, so a little extra inventory is okay!

Sadly I'm in Cali so I can't even get a threaded barrel and goodies until I move. But I was really hoping to get a ported barrel for my k9 and I'm not willing to go the magnaport style or cut the slide or any crap. Maybe I'll get lucky and find one on gunbroker someday

I'm stocking up on kahr mags though. I can find them locally for 33 bucks. I think they are "used" but the 8 reounder I just got looked like it just came out of the box.

For those of you desiring a ported barrel for your K9, I'm just wondering what your objective is. My K9 has virtually no recoil as-is, and very modest recoil even with +P ammo. I can see having a ported barrel/slide on polymer-framed models, especially .40 caliber, but I don't know what the gain would be on the K9, given it's weight and lack of recoil as-is.

I have a Shield 9, and I recently purchased a Shield 9 Performance Center (with the ported slide and barrel) just because I wanted one and they look bad-ass. Seriously, the PC Shield comes with a much better trigger than the regular Shield which is the main benefit. The regular Shield 9 has pretty mild recoil even though it is polymer and hence doesn't weigh very much. The porting on the barrel and slide on the PC Shield gives only a very modest improvement in "snappiness".

Just wondering if I'm missing something here regarding the benefits of porting on a 9mm steel-framed pistol...

                          Thanks!

I have actually shot a lot of pistols with ported barrels, never a kahr, most of them had noticably less snappiness aka muzzle rise. The recoil seems to be mitigated/translated more to the web of your hand but is quicker to get back on target. That has been by experience with larger pistols but I have never tried it on a gun this small.

But I believe the factory is actually Lothar Walther.
Last ditch effort would be to reach out to Lothar Walther and see if you could special order one directly from them.

Sorry things didn't work out for you.
Better luck with your next project.
