  • Went on a buying spree for my k9 last night...

I went nuts last night and ordered a set of checkered wood grips, a set of MeproLight night sights, another 8 round magazine, and 3 Lakeline llc +1 magazine extensions that I plan on putting on 2 8 rounders and 1 7 round mag. This is actually one of my main duty weapons for executive protection so I thought it was finally time to fix the things I thought could be improved. Overly sticky rubber grips, and just ok sights. Mag capacity is a non issue since I live in California and can only buy/own 10 rounders but I thought what the heck, a couple extra rounds never hurt anybody...

I also bought another 8 round mag at the gun store earlier in the day. Generally my 1911's are my project/expensive guns. But this k9 is turning out to be just as pricy. Makes me like it even more. Now if only I could find a ported barrel to have for the range...

Swap those original grips for some 'Roxanne" Crimson Trace laser grips and "turn on that red light"!
Judging by today's left wing, looks like Senator Joe McCarthy was right after all.

I ended up getting 3 out of the 4 things I ordered in the mail. I got the sights (which I have not yet installed), the grips, and the magazine extensions. The grips are gorgeous and a bit thicker than the wood grips which I really like since I have somewhat long skinny fingers. Makers finger placement on the trigger a bit more natural than with the thinner rubber grips. The checkering is also aggressive enough to grip your fingers. It's checkered in the right places for carry so it doesn't grip on my shirt, even when I carry it exposed on duty for when I'm in the guard truck since its size is so comfortable and again, since I live in CA, I can only carry 10 rounds anyways so I'm you g to carry what I shoot best with and I really do shoot best with my kahr my compared to any other striker fired auto. I do carry 1911's also but the k9 gets the bulk of holster time these days. Here's why:

Oh look a Lakeline +1 extension. 9 rounds effectively. Big woop I'm 1 round under the maximum...

Oh look 9 rounds in a mag... Just waiting on the lakeline llc sleeve that I'm sure I'm going to have to modify a bit to fit the extension because of the screw but it's nothing a dremel or even some files can't fix. I may end up getting the gun cerakoted in the future but I really am digging the stainless and wood grips so I may pony up and just go for a hardchrome finish instead...

And one last kind of crappy photo of the k9 9mm with lakeline llc +1 extension on 7 round mag

How did your wood grips fit when you first installed them? I'm asking because when I got my wood grips for my K9 Elite 03, there was a sizable gap in the back where they come together. After some rework and adjustment (thanks to Bawanna) the gap was substantially reduced and they now fit fine. Just curious as to how yours fit.

One grip is a bit thicker on the chequered portion and there is a gap around the left side of the web of my hand that I have to fix. Shouldn't take much thought but even the way it is, it feels way more comfortable than the rubber grios. I would even leave them as is if I had to. But indont so I plan on fixing them

Before you go having it nickel plated, get with me. I have a K9 that is factory nickel

Post some pic of your nickel k9 if you have them. I would love to see how it looks.

I got these grips from Kahr last week. Having read some of the comments here I was concerned that they might not fit well, but they were perfect. I did order the recommended longer screws along with the grips; perhaps that helped. It also has Meprolight sights, which I had Kahr install. In any event, this is one beautiful pistol, inside and out. A real pleasure to look at, to handle, and to shoot.

I agree completely. One of the prettiest guns on the market, IMHO. I love mine.

This is the residual gap where the grips meet in the back. I can live with it. It was much worse when I first got them, but Bawanna re-worked them for me, and I am happy with the result.

Here's mine, out of the box. It could use a tiny bit of improvement, but I'd be venturing into the law of diminishing returns if I started to mess with it.

That's a lot better but I guess I could have done a little more. It had zero gap at all on mine. Frames must vary just a tiny bit.

OldBoldPilots needs a bit of the same treatment. Just a sliver too much wood left causing the uneven gap.

Do you still rework grips? Mine could defiantly use a tiny bit of help
