  • A handy tool I picked up awhile back: Astro 101 mini grease gun

I thought I'd share this mini grease gun I picked up awhile back. I purchased it for doing maintenance on my bicycle, but quickly found it handy for lubricating firearms and other equipment. It's pretty much a "go to" tool now. There's a longer needle nozzle available for it, but that cost more than the gun....might be nice to have, but I've resisted so far.

    Dang I love that knife!

This looks really good. Looks like you just pack it with whatever you want to use for grease. Not a tube type set up which is good. I get stuff like that and then you can never get reloads.

What are you feeding it by chance. That wheelbearing and 4x4 bearing grease would probably work good or maybe the Mobil One stuff.

I been using TW25 in the syringe but this would work for a lot of other stuff better and far more economically.

That knife was a profiled and heat treated blank I found while helping a gent clean some buildings on his property. He said a soldier stationed at the Yuma Proving Ground was a hobbyist knife maker and had given him the blank (the gent I was helping is a retired Army helo pilot). He said if I wanted, it then it was mine I put a Scandi grind on it leaving most of the heat treat scale on it, then wrapped the handle with bank line, and sprayed Flex Seal over the line. It's a dandy shop knife

I did go with the CRC SL3121 Marine Boat Trailer and 4 x 4 Wheel Bearing Grease

Just ordered one from Ebay. I didn't order any grease, I think I have some at home to try.
I'm thinking in addition to guns and lots of stuff it will be handy on my van doors.
I tried to find the little extension thinking I'd order a couple, one for you, but didn't see any at all.

Looks like it might work just fine as is for most stuff.

Good tip Greg. Thanks as usual.

I've had one just like that, bought it probably 35 years ago to grease the holes in the end of the bar on my 028 chainsaw. still working fine, and many other uses for sure. did not know they still made them.

Yeah I found them on Amazon, I was trying to find them at the place I got the grease gun since it was free shipping.
Like Greg said that's more than I paid for the gun, got it for 9 bucks with free shipping.

I can be cheap sometimes I guess.

I'll figure out an extension but don't look like it will really need it for most applications.

Thats awesome. Just ordered me one too. Thanks Greg.
The only thing better than having all the guns and ammo you'd ever need would be being able to shoot it all off the back porch.

I got my mini grease gun today in the mail. Wife wanted to know what it was for. I told a little white lie. Momma say a little white lie never hurt nobody. Told her it was for whip cream or body lubricants. Think I'm going down for that?

Anyhow I haven't put grease in it yet but I'm impressed. It feels much more quality that I expected, is a bit smaller than I thought which is also a really good thing, the tip and built in extension of the body seem more than ample and should work for most everything I've thought of so far.

The weight of it is a sure sign it's not made of tin. Good tool. Thanks Greg as usual for pointing us at it. I can't wait to grease something.
I have some marine grease used for outboard motors and such, been using on my boat trailer wheel bearings too. I think I'm gonna try a bit of that and see how some of the toys like it.

The Flex Seal worked pretty good on the knife handle and has held up so far. I'd use it again in that application. I do think it's better than the plastic dip spray I tried before. It's not the most precise application out of the can, so I think I'll try the liquid at some point.
