It looks like a handful. I would look into using short shells in that mother.

Some things like this I just have to ask myself "why".

Great home defense shotgun. Load it with 4's or even 6's. I've tried a pistol grip shotgun and didn't care much for it but it's not hard on the body. Your arm soaks up most of the recoil.

We have shotguns with buttstocks and a pistol grip combined and I much prefer those. You can still hold the shotgun good if you need to open a door or use your support hand for something else. Not too easy with this style of handle.

                Not for me at all.

                This is enough for me.

I think it's too late. I see the magic word inbound in the title. And that's not a bad thing.
I'm not certain what the barrel length is but I'm thinking a butt stock is out of the question as it would be a SBR.
I'll have to look it up for stats.

A friend of mine has a Mossberg with the 18.5" barrel and pistol grip. The pistol grip is pretty painful to shoot, particularly buckshot or slugs. He bought a birdshead grip like that had on it, and that is actually pretty comfortable to shoot. It is also surprising how accurate shooting from down at hip level can be. Have fun with that!

I went to check it out, here's a link. http://www.mossberg.com/category/series/590-shockwave/

As I suspected it's a 14'' barrel. Might be right handy. I'd love to play with one to see if Alfonse has hit on something.
I agree I didn't like the pistol grip but maybe this is the ticket for a short handle and being shorter overall, maybe it would be manageable with one hand moving around. Not shooting but freeing up the weak hand for other stuff.

Well I wasn't a fan but the 14 inch barrel got my attention.

And it still holds 6 3'' rounds. That's pretty cool. It would hold a pile of them shorty rounds mentioned earlier.

                            Taking out the Trash

                            Grew up watching The Rifleman.
Sawed off the stalk of my Ruger 10/22 and shot from the hip.
                            Later got a Mossberg 500.
Tossed the stock and kept the pistol grip.
Although painful to shoot, I could hip shoot a mannequin at close range with slugs effortlessly.
Reviews I've read the birds head grip is pleasant to shoot even with heavy loads.
Ordered just the grip for my 500.
But I'm thinking this would make a fine home defense weapon loaded with buckshot.
Thought about having the barrel sawed off - but then it's a SBS
The Shockwave is like a modern Ithaca 37 Witness gun without the legal issues.
14" heavy barrel and just over 26" overall.
Decided to go all in and just get the newer heavy duty 590.
Ordered the 590A1 military metal trigger group and safety as well...
It's a niche gun for sure.
But I'm thinking I'd rather repel borders with a 12 guage than a pistol.
This thing looks like the ultimate apartment cleaner
