"creating" a P9 Covert?

I have read in various places about guys buying the p9, cutting down the grip to take pm9 mags, and creating for themselves the now discontinued "covert".

I've been thinking of doing the same, but I'm curious, can it be done with the CW9? If it's grips length is cut down, will it take pm9 mags?

Ripley, thanks for the quick reply. I'm going to buy the pistol tomorrow sometime. I'll take pics of the work.

There is a LNIB P9 for sale, $500, and 2 CW9's, one for $400 and one for $450.. all on a local forum. Before I commit, is there any particular reason I should spend the extra $50-$100 on the p9 over the CW9? My understanding is that the two noteworthy differences are the polygonal rifling on the p9, and the dovetail front sight, making nights sights etc an easier addition.

Thoughts?

Pistol will be for my wife, want it easy to conceal than the p9/CW9 (hence the shorter grip) but a bit easier to shoot accurately than the Pm9 (hence the P9 or CW9 for slide length/sight radius.)

It also seems that the P9 and CW9 are a bit more "bomb proof" and less finicky than the smaller PM9....

Personally, I prefer the P9, mainly because it is available in black, has the polygonal barrel and will take Mepro night sights (again a personal preference). If it is only a $50 difference then I'd say buy the P9 because you get an extra mag as well as the above P9 features. The $100 difference isn't quite as easy to justify by the mere addition of a extra magazine.

If it were me, buying for my wife that is, I'd leave the grip alone at first, and make sure she liked the gun and was amenable to cutting the grip. The P9/CW9 grip isn't hard to conceal as it is, IMHO.

great guns for the money spent. the P9 also has dovetailed front and back sights which gives you more sight flexibility than the CW series that has a staked front sight. The P series has a forged slide lock lever the cw has a MIM, both will never give one issue. Polygonal rifled barrle by lothar is nothing to sniff at either, extra magazine is $40, a tad more engraving on the slide of the P series and oh yes you said it, u can get the P series with the dlc finish which is awesome. Your not gonna buy one of these every day and 3 months from now you mght be kicking yourself for not spending the extra bucks up front and getting what u want.

I'm certanly not knocking the cw series kahrs, for the money they are certainly the best buy, but I know which one I would buy..:4:

Well, I just picked up a PM9 for the wife. She wanted it ultra concealable, and I figured I'd just get that one. Found a lightly used one with night sites, and crossbreed mini and de santis holster etc....

I may do the P9 for myself.

Anyhow, another random question; one of the mags that came with the gun say "MK" on it. I would assume the two mags are interchangeable, but thought I would ask before we go shooting this afternoon.

"MK" six round magazines are interchangeable between the MK9 and PM9.

And fwiw, the extended base plate seven round magazine that comes with a PM9 will fit a P9/K9 by changing to a polymer or metal flat base, or modifying the extended base plate.

Are you "just outside of Phoenix" north, south, east or west? I've lived/worked all over AZ since '57. My wife and I got wise eleven years ago and moved from the valley (of the damned) to cooler and less congested northern AZ.

Currently in Mesa, AZ. Spend a lot of time up in Flag, and Payson. Nearly took a job in Flag here pretty recently.

"MK" six round magazines are interchangeable between the MK9 and PM9.

That's because there is no "PM9" specific magazine. Only MK mags. And, if you know where to look, Kahr OEM mags can be found for well under $40. I paid $26 each for my spares, but that was a while ago and don't remember the link. Here's some for around $30.
