Soon as I get one I'll let you know. That will be my first mission. Don't want to be seen at the range with a billboard just cause MA and CA say I have to.

          may have to try it.

I have acetone from work. My husband says I'm like the old guy in "My Big Fat Greek Wedding". He fixed everything with Windex, I fix everything with acetone.

I keep the fingernail version at hand and the "straight" stuff in the garage... too much is not healthy. Lighter fluid and acetone are my favorite "removers" though some plastics kind of soften with either!
Do a tiny less conspicuous spot test first.

I do have that citrus-smelling Goo Gone for light work.

Unless you want to seek a complete refinish I'd lean towards cover, not remove.
Maybe make it a little more suttle with a darker color but not a perfect match. Course a perfect match would be good if it was perfect. Otherwise make it look like you planned it.

They run around 400-500 bucks but seem like they could be kinda fun. Considering I am anything but a hunter and I do not plan on an apocalypse anytime soon I was kinda interested in one just for fun at the range. I mean you could shoot that for hours with the girlfriend of friends when they come to town for about 30-40 dollars. Besides my uncle does have a .223 Knights Armament SR-15 (w/ EOTEC) if I wanted to shoot something a little heavier and I suppose a little bit farther. But all in all any of you wise individuals out there have any experience with one? Pros and Cons? Or should I just save my money and not even bother with one. But I know for sure a base Bushmaster without attachments I kinda wanna stay away from just given price of ammo alone. But thanks for the input guys since I've only been here for a couple days and I am loving all the responses.:53:

Keep in mind I dont know my a**hol* from my elbow when it comes to rifles.
I know that Kel-Tec makes an inexpensive Tactical .22, and Mossberg too. These run from mid $200's to mid $300's.
I think, as mentioned before, a Ruger 10-22,(low $200's) would be a good way to go. You can then buy the tactical replacement stock, with tri-pod, and end up with a quality rifle that could also be returned to original carbine form if desired. All of this for, depending where you buy, for less than what a S&W would cost.
You could also check out used ones at your local shop. I've seen a used Sig for around $350.

Those 10/22's have been around for a long time, and I gotta say they are ubiquitous, and handy. Very accurate, and easy to do anything to or with. I took mine and was shooting thumbtacks (clear) at 50 on a target backer (white target turned backwards) off the bench. I've rolled a few bunnies and tree rats and what have you with it as well. Great gun, it'll serve you well.

Yep those 10/22s are great values and fun. Got my first one when the Jacks would mock me when shooting cotton tails, Wy. Got the 10/22 and rolled them jacks.

I finally bought another one of these and now I just need to sort out the best ammo for the range and for hunting/SD... ya know, for a "Prepper" long gun.

I'll look at SS sling mounts and some kind of optics. I've always been partial to 1 to 1.5X variables to 4 or 5X... full-sized rifle scopes because I haven't seen good "rimfire versions"... not that I've looked in a long time... and price is a big factor, too!

This baby weighs in at under 4.5 pounds on my kitchen scale with the ten-round magazine in place. The barrel on this All-Weather Carbine is 18.5".

i'm pretty torn right now w/ this decision on my next purchase. have never owned a .22 rifle, but finding a desire to teach my son to shoot and to have something lightweight to have around. i'm having a tough time deciding between a 10/22 and modifying it w/ something like a Knoxx floating barrel stock and top rail, or getting a 15-22 and having a 'training' .22 for the AR platform. Ultimately, both. But in the next 6-12 months, have to pick one.

Unlimited gun funds sure would be nice.

It will cost a bit more but look at something like this http://cmmginc.secure-mall.com/item/...Gas-Block-1743 and http://cmmginc.secure-mall.com/item/...ower-Group-511 then you have more than just a .22, it has opptions. The Mossberg is cute but looks a pain to strip for cleaning http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_bnJyl2ptbI , the M&P 15 22 is better but still just a .22

I have been enjoying my S&W 15-22 for about a year now. Mine came with the Magpul sights and adjustable stock for $410. It was a great intro to guns for me. I really like how the controls mimick a full size AR. When I get to shoot my friend's AR's he always comments how I need to get a full size based on how well I operate them.

I test fired some ammo... inside today in my 10/22... the Remington 38-gr Subsonic ~1049 fps in a "rifle" barrel... mine is 18.5"... the All-Weather Carbine model. It's still kind of noisy, but the Colibrì is fairly quiet. I'll post a video and link for relative noise and some stills of the "Flashes". I'll have to edit those a bit, though.

The Remington Subsonic cycled okay and ejected about 60" to the right from a foot or so off the floor. The 20-grain, powderless Colibrì didn't even budge the bolt and made no "flash" and barely any sign at all other than the small "crack". You can shoot that and cycle the bolt by hand... no biggee. It buried the 20-gr bullet in a poplar board that I had.

I tried to make a decent backstop and not duplicate Getsome's awesome 12-gauge test...<snicker> I used an IBM 18 GB SCSI hard drive that I don't figure to use again, as a final backstop in front of the brick hearth. On initial testing when firing through 1/4" plywood to start the bullets upsetting and limit penetration. Behind the 1/4" plywood, the Mouser Electronics 2240-page or so catalog, two of the hardbound Cabela's 50th Anniversary Catalogs, and the hard drive, was my poplar board, then the brick hearth. None of the rounds got through the Mouser catalog, so all was good, if a bit messy.

Wifey's due in any moment from work and I've vacuumed but not put all of the paraphernalia away... most is still on the dining room table! Got to get busy!

I'll make some posts later... after supper and Wifey has retired for the night.

I bought a 10/22 carbine last year. If your looking for an inexpensive 22 rifle there pretty hard to beat. The aftermarket accessories for them are endless. If I remember I paid $215 at the local GS.
To be sure of hitting the target, shoot first and call whatever you hit the target.
