New Member With A Kahr CW40

I can no longer call myself a member without a Kahr. I just picked up a very lightly used CW40 plus two boxes of PMC FMJ rounds for $399. I went back on the range and put 100 rounds through the gun with 0 malfunctions. I love the trigger and the way it feels in my hand and for a light pistol it feels like it has less recoil than my Glock 27. Being this is my first Kahr any helpful tips will greatly be appreciated. I also want to thank everyone who responded to my first posting, New Member Without A Kahr.

Ha,Ha,Ha. I called Kahr and gave them the serial number and was told the gun was made in Dec. 2008. Have there been any upgrades to the gun since then? From what I can tell the gun has been very will maintained and has very little wear marks.

Both of you need to read and follow jocko's proper prep thread, and the lube chart found in the tech section. Sounds like both guns are well on their way to earning their keep. Again welcome to the asylum to both of you.

thanks jlott for the welcome. mine had an estimated 200 rounds through it when I got it and then I stripped it and cleaned it and put 100 fmj and 30 hollowpoints through mine without issue. i'm hoping its over its hurdles but i have some more rounds to put through it to see

Thats great Old Salt, I have a CW40 as well and the only things I have done so far is to do Jocko's Kahr prep and clean before I shot it the first time and I have had zero problems...I never had a .40 before and found the muzzel flip manageable but not comfortable with extended range time so I did the Wynn Trout's bicycle tire innertube slipped over the grip thing which improved the grip and cut down on the sharpness of the factory material...Next mod was a trip to Magna-Port for one of their recoil reduction porting jobs $110.00 and 10 days later it really improved the muzzel flip and felt recoil is down to something like a 9mm +p...Much improved 2nd shot time and it looks really nice too as they do excellent work...I wanted to be able to carry the pistol in my jeans front pocket but the grip on the CW series is a bit long for that so I sent my CW40 to Davie Bowie customs to have it cut down to PM40 size specs but after about 3 months (most of the summer) I called them and was given a time frame of 3-5 more months due to them having such a backlog of work orders so I decided to forget getting that done and they shipped the pistol back to me at no charge and now that I hear about the CM9 coming out this spring I'm very glad it worked out that way so now I can pick one of those up for pocket carry and still have the CW40 for IWB carry...The last thing I had done to the pistol was to have Kahr install night sights and they did a very nice job and only took 2 weeks so I'm done with any more mods...The CW40 is a very nice pistol in stock factory form and if you don't mind the recoil and stock grips and sights just keep it like it is and spend the money you save on mods to buy ammo and then shoot the thing until the targets fall off the range holder then put up another one and repeat....enjoy...:53:

Thank you, I saw jocko's proper prep thread. Gave my used CW40 a good cleaning and lubrication. I noticed who ever owned the gun before me polished the ramp to a mirror finish. Went to the range and put 100 FMJ PMC rounds with 0 malfunctions. As I mentioned loved the way the gun fits my hand. Did not have any problems with the back strap hurting my hand. Recoil was very manageable. Now I have to find a good self defense load. I have about 15 rounds of the Winchester 180 grain JHP bonded (PDX1) I’ll try them to see how my CW40 likes them. more thanlikely your kahr 40 wouldhave been ok anyhow but the propper prepp andllube chart things, just sets the gun up to be as perfect as it can be. Then if it gives issues,you know already you have eliminated, CLEAN GUN, MAGAZINES NOT RIGHT., NO LUBE, , Kahr does a greart job on their feed ramp they are smooth when you get um but when some one puts a mirror finish on the feed ramp that tells me that also prepped their gun somewhat to. Nice gun,now just shoot it like you stole it.. Kahrs are not ammo sensitive, but if by chance you find one round that is finiky, just move on to another brand or weight. To many good 40 cal ammo's out there to get to excited about maybe one brand not doing well..

Any issues with chambering the first round? Kahr recommends pulling the slide back, lock, and then pressing the release to "sling shot" the first round in the chamber. This is what I do. Trying to hand rack the slide is hard.
