I was getting the eggs all in the basket to get my #1 son's gun shipped to my FFL. I went with the guy I've been using since he doesn't collect the states 8.6% tax on out of state purchases.
Lo and behold he sadly advised that now every dealer has to collect the tax. Since the paperwork for the gun goes thru the state they know right off if the tax was collected. I'm really bummed about this. Collecting tax on something that my state had nothing to do with really.
Close to an extra 100 bucks on this purchase alone.

How many of your states collect tax on internet purchases? I know many have tried to implement it to help local business's. I do in fact try to purchase locally as much as possible.

I should have checked with this dealer before bidding. Knowing what I know now I would have waited till the next gun show and seen if the one that was there was still available. No tax, no paperwork.

Oh well a new member to the gun family is nice whatever the cost.

Lots of states are jumping on that horse. They see it as a revenue stream, and figure since you bought it and had it shipped in, that qualifies for sales tax. Thank you internet and UPS for that.

How about this. Because I have clients and have income from multiple states, I must file a return for states that have a state tax. I am asked, as a part of the filing process, if I made any internet purchases from dealers in the state, for which I owe sales taxes.

What really torques me off is inheritance tax. The money has already been taxed when it was earned why do some states think they should get another whack at it.

No tax yet in North Carolina but it probably won`t be long.I remember that legislation was introduced a few years ago by one of our elected "geniuses" who realized that the state was missing out on taxes not being levied on the sale of Girl Scout cookies.They were actually serious about it before they noticed the mobs of angry villagers with torches and pitchforks that were amassing across the state.As stupid as the NC lawmakers can be,they had enough sense to back off of that one but that`s the only one I can remember them not enacting.

I would never admit on an open forum to making out of state purchases to avoid state sales taxes, perish the thought ...

By the way did you know you can even buy non-perishable groceries from Amazon? Just sayin'.

Connecticut attempts to collect State sales tax, from its citizens, on items purchased outside the state. I believe the way it works is that if you've paid a tax to the State of purchase or no tax at all then you owe CT the difference between the State taxes. CT will not give you a tax deduction if that difference is negative - meaning their tax is greater than CT tax.

I have many of those but I think I'm gonna specialize in those rainy day guns now. It might really rain dems and libtards so you can't never have too many.
This does encourage people to shop locally which is good long as you have an honest fair minded dealer or dealers which I do have several, but it also encourages guys like me to focus on used old stuff. I just love used old stuff anyway so we're good.

In Georgia, the armpit of state and local gubmint they are thinking of new ways to further tax us to death...We already have a high State sales and income tax and GOD FORBID we ever think of allowing Sunday beer and wine sales or parimutual dog and horse racing to help collect taxes, no no that might cause some of the Southern Baptists Preachers heads to start spinning around and explode or something...Get this, the newest idea to ream more money out of the citizens is to tax food from a restaurant, groceries, goods and services such having to pay state sales tax when you get your truck tuned up or when the A/C repairman or plumber fixes somethng at your house oh and don't forget those evil sales at gun shows, they got to pay too, probably start taxing you to get in the door...The bastards even want to get their money grubbing hands on private used car sales which have never been taxed before and the buyer still has to pay state ad volorem tax to get the car retitled so thats a double tax...Now I don't get this double dipping thing because the car was taxed to the original buyer to begin with and the repair guys have to pay tax on the parts they use to repair things and have to pay fuel tax for their service vehicles, I mean WTF!!!...Here in Atlanta they built a toll highway Ga. 400 and the idea was to charge the toll only for as long as it took to pay off the bonds issued to construct the thing....Well the highway tolls come to over 20 million a year and since original construction was completed have brought in over 1/4 billion which is way more than enough to pay off the bonds but the gubmint decided it needed the funds more than the citizens and the tolls continue and probably always will...I really think the time has come for tax revolt...If everyone just said ok thats enough of this $&*@$% and stopped paying federal and state taxes what would they do, arrest the entire nation!!!...I now understand why they tied the Federal income tax (which was never to become a permanent tax by the way) and State income tax to your paycheck so they can rob you of the money before you even see it...If a citizen had to pay with a check weekly in the amount the IRS steals from his or her paycheck then there would have been mass revolt long ago....About the only thing we can do now is vote for the candidates that understand and support the FAIR TAX!!!!!....

It is crap like this that ends up driving the barter-trade which goes completely under the reporting mechanisms.

I have lost track of the number of small businesses (lawn care, landscaping, home improvement, etc.) that want cash for the work they do.

We don't pay a sales tax period, here in Moo Hampshire. In fact, we don't have an income tax either!
