  • It is a puzzlement

I`ve read posts by many different members stating that this is not your average gun forum.Well,I guess it`s not. It`s sure different than any other I`ve come across but it contains many of the same ingredients as the others. We are a diverse group with a love of firearms, freedom, and the shooting sports in common. We are of different backgrounds, age and education levels, different races and religions and have both sexes as members. Some members are more open minded than others and some are downright contrary at times.I imagine both the major political parties are represented here and some independants as well. All of these things are present in all the other forums but most folks who spend any time here say that this forum is different. My question is why? If we are different, what makes us so? And with the assortment of oddballs that have gathered here, how in the world does it all work?
In the area in which I now reside, when I`m placed in a group of four or five guys,I`m known as "the smart one".God help me.

I'll try to take a stab (or should I say shot?) at it.

One of the main things is that on the other forums, if it isn't gun related, the thread gets locked pretty quickly. How many gun forums do you know of that have something like your own "Dear Dietrich" or the monthly Anything Goes threads? I haven't seen anything like this on the Ruger forums (ok one of them is pretty loose in the general forum area, got to give them that), TFL, THR, CZ, RFC, etc.

If it is gun related and goes off topic, the threads get locked or there is at least a warning from the moderators, that the thread will be locked if it does not get back on topic quickly. Darn few threads on this forum have been locked for going off topic.

While this is a Kahr forum, we don't seem to be what most people would call "fan boys/girls". If there is a problem with a Kahr (or any other gun), we try to help fix it, not immediately say "It can't be the gun, must be you". Heck we don't even get down on the Glock owners here and I'll bet that there are also some HiPoint owners here also.[I don't own a Glock or a HiPoint, but hey, it's your gun so enjoy]

I also think that there is a lot of respect and tolerance for others' opinions. Hey I might not agree but you do have a right to your own opinion. (but see one of the lines in my signature).

Or we are a real collection of oddballs as you say and just like it here.
On the internet, the number of posts do not correlate to actual knowledge.

This is the main point I would agree with. To my knowledge Kahr foots the bill for the web site and allows free and open discussion of problems. I like that. I belong to several forums that are "monitored and censored" and others that are completely open. Open is better.

The first totally open web site I was aware of and joined is the Seecamp.com site sponsored by Larry Seecamp. He allows any and all complaint, praise and discussion. Very admirable. I see KahrTalk as a similar type of freely allowed discussion, warts and all.

Whereas there is some childish behavior, it is minimal here. I hope that continues. I don't care what someone writes, so long as it is civil and clean, and accurate.

This has been a pretty well self-regulated forum from the start. I like that.
Judging by today's left wing, looks like Senator Joe McCarthy was right after all.

It's a real putoff (?) when you go to a forum looking for info and have to "register" just to look at pictures and in most cases to ask a question or make a comment. You're supposed to read the rules, and usually, some are so limiting that I just back out and go away.

We're adults and some forums are so restrictive that they would block you because they THINK you're thinking about using "bad" words... and get really detailed in what you can't say or do.

We have ordinary conversations here and when we want to comment on something else, we don't have to move to another sub-forum because it's off-topic. If you're having a conversation, different things can come up and you shouldn't have to move to a different "room" for each and every different topic that might come up. A little "salty" speech is OK, but most of us try to not get carried away and need "adult intervention". We ARE adults and do appreciate a little "freedom of speech", but realize this is a forum supported by Kahr Arms and they do want to keep the language civilized and encourage members to discuss the things that bring us together here, especially Kahrs and their other lines of guns.

Some people don't want to hear anything but gun stuff and no straying from the "topic". There are plenty of forums for that and too many seem to be run by wannabe naz!s.

Me? I try to stick to topic... ... really! Sometimes I'm successful, but more often not.

        Vive la différence!

I'd like the civility of the forum. We disagree on things, yet no one resorts to name calling or insults. Bawanna does a great job moderating, as well as johnh. They aren't too quick to put the hammer on a thread that gets off topic. Things just seem more "relaxed" here. On other forums I feel like everyone is way too uptight, and the moderators are sometimes a little too much in control - little ****'s as it were. This place is like 2/3's gun forum and 1/3 social forum. I think that makes a good mix.

I think it's the oddball stuff and wacky personalities that keep me coming back. This forum is a great mix of gun stuff and other stuff. Plus, I enjoy not having to put up with the rudeness that you see in other forums. I've pretty much stopped going to other forums unless I have a technical question about one of their products or to look at the classifieds section.

You guy go easy on the newbies and you don't use the BAN STICK much.

Maybe it's because Kahr pistols are above average and not so run-of-the-mill the we get those those same above average people here?

I just realized I don't go to other places much either. I didn't intend for that to happen, it just did.

This forum has the same format as very successful sitcoms......a core of really strong characters surrounded by alot of us just ordinary folks [speaking only for myself]. Think MASH, Cheers, etc. [you can tell I am lost in the 90's]. We also have a great product to discuss.

One of the real hair-pullers is the delay on "searches"... ya know, clicking on another button, sometimes... S I X T Y seconds!! WTF!! I think 10 seconds is a pain here! I just leave those sites, but maybe that's what they wanted.

And, "WTF" is certainly reason for you to be booted... though the Lame Stream Media and Jay Leno use it all the time!
