Kahr Needs Cleaning?

Well went to the range on Sat. Sent 150 rnds down range( maybe 350 rnds since last cleaning) with my P40. Had some FTFs with 6 in the clip one in the hole(just 6 in the clip no probs). After the first round the FTF would happened. Just started to carry this way so wanted to get used to the mental round count. Hope it is just a cleaning issue. Cleaned it and heading to range today. Will report findings.

How often do you guys clean your Kahrs? Seems my Kahr needs a little more TLC than my other pistolas.:53:

Could be it needed cleaning. I have a mark III .22 that never malfunctions but is a pain to clean. After about 400 rounds over 2 trips (daughter shoots this one) It started to get fail to feed because not only was it dirty it was getting a little dry from all the powder residue that was making the oil pasty. Cleaned it up and no problems after that.

i make sure my pistol is clean when carrying so basically after every shooting mine gets cleaned, if you are carrying with one chambered make sure when you refill your top round to tap the mags rear down on something lightly to seat all bullets rearward. if you rack your slide and eject the mag you will notice the top round extended forward some almost falling out of the mag, its due to the bottom of the slide rubbing the top of the next round to load while pushing one into battery, kahrs by nature push the round up for battery early in the cycle thus allowing the slide bottom to drag the next round under forward some (hope my explanation makes sense), this could be a huge factor in nosedives but i don't work for kahr, i'm no mechanical engineer, and this topic gets beat to death.

wondering if I give it a whores bath after a brief outing to the range will be sufficient. Then break it down every 300+ rnds for a proper cleaning.

whores bath= cleaning the feed ramp only without taking gun apart.

My carry pistols (Kahr CW9 and SIG p229) get cleaned and lubed after every single trip to the range, even if I only shoot a few magazines (technically, we do not have clips, we use magazines!! ) worth.

With other firearms, I try to at least run a bore snake through after firing them, and give them a more thorough cleaning after 2-3 trips.

It does depend on your caliber and ammo too; if you shooting WWB or .22s you may need to clean more frequently for good function.

So how long does it take you to clean? I don't mean a complete top end strip just general cleaning.

Sorry for that, I clean my CW9 after every outing. One mag or 200 rounds, doesn't matter.

I average 10 minutes per, but sometimes I take longer... if you have mechanically simple takedown like SIGs, you can be pretty quick. No need for perfection, they're only going to get dirty again.

How long? Well, I'm retired so it takes me a long time. I scrub every nook and cranny I can get into then oil and lube thoroughly. I take down the top end every few times and spray it out every time. Since the initial striker channel cleaning it's never had debris.

I clean & lube an EDC every 2 weeks…regardless…only exception is if I shoot it…then it’s cleaned…even if it’s one round…I’ve never had an issue at the range and don’t expect an issue if/when I need it….my safety is worth 40 minutes of my time a month.

I make a point to clean all my guns every time I shoot.
It's a pain.
But they are self defense guns and I also want them to last.

I'm OCD about cleaning anything - cars, motorcycle, house, and GUNS. I clean all my guns the same day I shoot them, 1 round or 300, and if a gun sits in the safe for two months, it gets cleaned and re-lubed also. That might have something to do with the fact they always go bang.

I clean a carry gun every time it is used (can be a real pain if you just shoot a mag or two) Non carry I'll let go longer but generally 400 rounds is max on any pistol for me and it will begin to act up. Mittec helped make cleaning easier (you still get the same amount of crud but its easier to wipe off) I still use oil over the miltec

To all that made the rec "if your life depends on it" clean it, your words are heard. I took the ol P 40 out to the range and put only 25 rnds through her in the full capacity 6+1 set up and the gun shot well. No problems. It needed cleaning and lube. Since this gun is my EDC, I will clean it after every use no matter what the rnd count.

Another thing I picked up from a buddy that I thought was a fantastic idea. While at the range, just as you finish shooting a particular gun, while it's still hot run a bore snake through it a few times. In my opinion, the crud hasn't had time to cool and harden on yet. It's kept my Sig 239 barrel looking mirror smooth on the inside.
