  • Another "kind, gentle" man goes on a shooting spree

Eduardo Sencion would kill four people and wound seven others in all before shooting himself in the head in front of a bustling business complex in an unexplained display of violence Tuesday.

Ralph Swagler, the owner of a nearby BBQ & Grill, grabbed his gun and tried to intervene, but lost his nerve when faced with the AK-47. Now he's having regrets, because after he backed down, several people were killed.

That's a really nasty situation. Damned if you do, and damned if you don't. I'm told that shooting and killing someone is no fun, and that even if justified, many people beat themselves up about it long afterward, sometimes haunted forever by it. But on the other hand, now he has a lifetime of "what if" to deal with.

Even from cover, it would take a "lucky" shot to incapacitate the rifleman. You would then have all of the attention of the guy with the world's most infamous and deadly "assault rifle" which can penetrate most building materials and any available cover.
It really sucks that he will be beating himself up over what was probably his wisest decision. I would hate to have been in his shoes and would have felt compelled to act, too, and wonder if I would have reached the same decision... or indecision.

Rifle v pistol, at a distance? Those are bad odds, even for the best trained CCW holder.

He may kick himself forever, but it beat having your wife kick your coffin as she curse out your dead body.
All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.
