  • Day at the Range with my boys....

I've taken both of my boys shooting since they were 9-10 or so and
taught them both to shoot on a Browning Buckmark.

But it's been a while since we've gone and they've been bugging me lately
to go again. They play a lot of video games that have real gun models in
them and I was really surprised at the number of gun types they can
recognize just by looking at them. (FN PS90 seems to crop up in a lot
    of shooter type games...go figure

At any rate, I thought it was high time for them to get a feel for how
a Glock handles in real life so last Saturday I took them with me and
brought an assortment of Glock 9mm and 40s.

This was the first time they were physically big enough to handle the
larger guns. We had a blast and didn't leave until every last round in my
bag was gone Probably about 300rds assorted all together.

I was actually very impressed at how well they did
and how well they were able to catch on with just a few pointers
    and refreshers.

I'm very confident that in a tight situation my two boys have the capability
of defending their family with one of our home defense pistols.
I figure by the time they're driving they ought to have access combinations to our home defense guns.

Here's some cel phone snaps from a proud dad....

Tim, 15 yr old.....he was quite pleased with himself as you can see....
deservedly so. That target was multiple 5 shot strings of Glock 19 and
    Glock 23.

This one is Tim shooting my Kahr P380. He had a tough time
    getting that on target.

And 13 yr old little brother Charlie, not too far behind. He's got
good form. He preferred the G19. Can't say anything against that, probably
the easiest gun to shoot well with across the board for most people.

    Fun times!

    Good on ya, Dad!

Firm believer in finding something, anything, that fathers can do with their kids. Cool factor is always a plus--and being able to talk smack to all their video-gaming buds about shooting the real thing is gravy.

You have good reason to be proud.
They both look to be fine young men. You must be doing something right.

I've found that with many kids, even some adults for that matter, just punching holes in paper gets boring rather quickly. Adding some "novelty" to the shooting session/outing will often mean the difference between some folks maintaining an interest or not. We need to remember that most folks aren't into guns at the level we are or as motivated because of our decision to carry and to be prepared to defend ourselves and loved ones.

Well done. I bet they are still talking about it. Soon they will have toy boxes of their own I'm sure and that's what it's really all about.

They both could stand a dang hair cut. Tell em I said that and let me know the response. Fine looking lads for sure.

Heh, well for the most of their lives they lived in crew cuts, NOT because
I required it but because we live in Florida and they're too dang lazy to wash their hair. But the older one has started cultivating his "look" now and he gets his jet black hair from me of course but his curls from his brunette
              mom.

I hit a milestone this year with being able to finally and fully retire from mowing the lawn (passed that onto the boys) and maybe picking up
some reliable back up for when the zombies attack. Sheesh, seems like
just yesterday they were a couple chuckleheads throwing cheerios at each
              other!

Life comes at ya quick that's for sure. I just married off my daughter couple months ago, my youngest graduates this year. I didn't even see it coming.

And I still cut my own grass. I went wrong someplace. But in truth I enjoys it usually.
