  • HDTV, Google TV, web browsing via TV, etc...

Does anyone know much about web browsing via a Wifi equipped HDTV? I've done a some reading and this is the little that I have learned:

*Internet TV on those Wifi HDTV's are mostly done through Apps like the iphone or Droid
*Some Sony blue ray players will do the same thing when hooked to your TV
*Google TV which some of them use isn't quite cutting it now
*It looks like there is no real good option for web browsing (like checking email and posting on Kahrtalk) available at this time without hooking your PC or laptop up to the TV and using a wireless keyboard and mouse

Does anyone know of anything new that really works good for basic web access where you can sit on the couch and do it over your HDTV?

    Thanks for any input

What if your wife or children are in the room when your reading some of Jocko's post, I'm thinking the censors won't be enough.

I don't have a clue what all this stuff your talking about is. I have a mini laptop I keep next to my recliner that I keep powered up to Kahrtalk while I'm making fishing lures and watching tv, I think we call that multi tasking. I don't like that word at work much but it's ok in the evening.

The laptop just talks to something that's hooked to my real computer through osmosis or something. I can take the laptop to my man cave and although the reception is poorer it works and I can see if people are talking about me while I'm whittling grips.

When Jocko post a really good one I always share it with the family and call it a "cross-cultural" experience with Italy and we all filibillys laugh. Well the kids are filibillys anyway. I'm just a hillbilly. His best ones sound like some of the sarcastic comments that I or the wife may come up with anyway minus the most colorful words.

I tell them that he rides a harley and most of those guy's are all right. You always know what they are thinking. Plus I'm still trying to get him to run for president since I figure that will fix most of our international public relations issues along with the ones at home.

I think the new Sony Play Station has a browser and keyboard that will allow to you to check webmail.

I use a ROKU box for Netflix and other streaming services; works great. I have cable internet with cox and the ROKU has worked out very well, watch the news without commercials or very few anyway.

Yes the PS3 wil have a browser ans plays Blue-Ray but if you are not into games some blue- ray players that connect to the internet will do the same for less (think netflix, hulu, googletv, amazon tv and more). Just make sure that is wi-fi ready so you dont have to start running cables.

PS: wi-fi ready is not the same as wi-fi capable.

Why just the other day I was shopping for one us them plug in dealy ma heimers you stick in the little slot of your crystal ball and you can store stuff and take it somewheres else. Like pictures or writing and stuff.
Girl at the store told me I needed a thumb drive! I told her I knew what I needed but I'd drive her to Nebraska. Obviously very little training at Staples if she was that completely clueless.

I have the Sony Blu-Ray player, that gives access to some things like netflix and you tube and several others. I find it very irritating to browse for videos using the "keyboard" that Sony displays on your TV, then selecting a letter at a time with the remote. (For browsing for youtube videos) It doesn't give a way to visit forums or check your emai or anything, so I added a laptop to the mix.
I like the laptop much better, I recently aquired one that has an S-Video out, that plugs into my TV, and allows the same info as on the laptop screen to show on the TV.
I've been watching a few things that way, Mostly Hulu videos. Now to get a wireless keyboard and mouse so I can sit in my chair and type in the URL's and use the mouse to select certain features. If your laptop doesn't have an S-Video out, you can buy conversion boxes that will attach to the monitor output of the laptop, and convert the signal to S-Video, or the RCA plug video connection. I like the S Video, seems to be a little sharper. A lot of the new laptops are coming with HDMI ports ready to hook up to your HDTV. I was going to build a PC with the old type desktop case to mount mount with my DVD and Audio components, that had and HDMI out, but this laptop is working well. I do have to run another line for the audio out from the headphone jack into my home theatre reciever.

Well, if you do drive her here to Nebraska, Mudinyeri and I (he lives across the street) will take you both out for a beverage. I am sure we would get a kick out of someone who told you where you could go stick yer thumb. Gutsy I must say

Well gosh darn, now I can say I know somebody in Nebraska. Now how cool is that.

cgo99, nothing to fear from me but age itself. Now if your not partial to horse heads you might want to walk softly around Jocko. I hear he's got people.

I'm gonna go find one of them little disc dealy heimers what goes in the cup holder so I can watch a movie while I whittle on jeepsters grips.
DVD, that's what you call that. Ok, my wife told me but I already knew kind of sorta.

Got another set of NAA whittled out, so maybe some pics later.
