I read about this a while back.

Can't believe it is still going on. Seems like some people read about it on the Internets and filed the paperwork. As long as the DA has only prosecuted 5 out of a few hundred, it seems it will continue.

Here in Vegas, squatters have taken over between 2000 and 3000 vacant homes. (The actual count is hard to do. With so many homes trading hands, too many one man LLC's and do-it-your-selfers filing real estate docs and rental agreements every week, I bet the number of squatters is 3x that and rising)

With the Las Vegas foreclosures running a two or three year backlog, and once filed a minimum of 90 days, you could live payment free for a long time. (without court extensions 90 to 120 days. In some cases $200 if you do it yourself, you get another 90 days. My neighbor paid $2000 to lawyer and got another year free!)

Taking ownership here is almost impossible, like in Texas, but you could be in a home free for a long bit.

I wonder if the Castle Doctrine would cover a homeowner who took out the trash (squatters) with a Kahr or other favorite gun. I'd use my M&P since it holds 17 rounds.

I think that the law may be sane, but I question the sanity of some of the people's interpretation the law.

We were talking about this very thing one night in class. Thing is our deadly force laws are pretty easy, but if they have a bill in their name, you as the owner become the trespasser, and cannot shoot. I think what started it here was a man that found a foreclosure house, squatted, and the finance company went under, he got the house for $16.

The more I hear about this "Law", the more I need to puke.
