Glad to hear you're both safe cjb and zamboni. Go back and get some sleep if you're reading this, cjb, and leave the analyzing until at least tomorrow. Long deep breaths to help keep the pulse count down. We're thankful things didn't escalate any further and you're home safe.

      You did well, cjb.

Doing the right thing is seldom easy.

Glad you made the choices you did. It would have been easy not to. I know; I had a similar type encounter about 6 months ago (before I was carrying daily). Absolutely lost it, probably would have seriously injured a man in the road on a major thoroughfare in rush hour traffic. Adrenaline overload. Glad he backed down, because at the time I wasn't smart enough to.

You're a better man than me. Good job.

Seems like you did OK....nobody was shot, nobody's going to court.
I'm NOT trying to "second-guess" you...just wondering aloud....did it ever occur to you ( or anyone else who has responded and may be following this thread) to just turn off the motor, put the kickstand down, get off the bike and step to the curb...???? NO screaming, NO threats..just get off and step aside. Leave the bike in the lane. If he hits it, he just bought it.
Leave the idiot to do WHATEVER it is he thinks he needs to do. You're now totally in the clear...catching your breath, and making sure you have clean access to your 45. If the idiot goes all ballistic and comes out of his vehicle with a gun...drop him. You've done NOTHING other than park your bike on a roadway and allowed HIM to make whatever move he needed to make.

I'm a rider also as you have probably guessed by my avatar. As Thunder 71 mentioned always give yourself a way out and motorcycle in first gear if other traffic is around. There is no guestion the dude had it in for someone, anyone on a Motorcycle. I have been there and it is the reason I carry a gun while riding if it's legal in that state. Those adreniline rushes can take some time to calm themselvesd down. There no joke when it feels like the top of your head is about to blow off and your heart feels like it wants to jump out of your chest all at the same time. There certainly nothing you can practice for.

Glad you didn't have to take it to the next level. You did the right thing by getting out of there. Nothing wrong with using your inteligence by defusing the situation peacefully. What goes around comes around and he'll get his one day.

You only did two things wrong. You didn't get his license number and you didn't call the police.

Hey CJB, time will settle those uneasy "I shoulda done this or that" feelings. I have been in that same situ a few times... once a couple months ago when in Birmigham. I had a gang member break away from the his group and approach my car very agressively as I was with my family. I did have the CM9 pulled and ready. I had a post about it a while back. It bothered me a lot, but I feel I did the right thing by scootin when I had the chance, but by gosh, with my family, I don't play no games and would have blown his head off at the drop of a hat if I had to.

I sold my bike last year. I LOVE riding, but having 2 kids and a wife, several close calls, and many motorcycles fatalities due to cagers and cell phones, I had to do what I needed to at the time. When kids are grown, it's a new road king for me.

ALWAYS a good idea to tell someone you believe to be threatening you to STOP.
NEVER a good idea to announce that you're armed. Once he hits you with his vehicle, he could be facing a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and (in Florida at least...) a mandatory 3 yr. prison sentence. You'd be doing him a favor telling him so, especially if you and the bike fell over once contact had been made.
At the end of the day....this ended well...as I said earlier...nobody was hurt, and nobody is spending a LOT of money on lawyers. After the fact....there's always a million ways to replay it.
Congratulations on choosing restraint where your 45 was concerned.

The leave an escape path at stop lights saved my bacon many times. So you already know about that. YOU DID THE BEST THING BY LEAVING But may I suggest if needed in future to get off the bike(if possible) when he got out of the car and keep the bike between you and him. If he crossed over to your side of the bike then you punch him square in the pie hole. I used to roll with some heavy hitters on bikes and that trick was given to me. ALSO keep your helmet on! Even if it is a tupperware kind not DOT legal, you lower your head a little and the dudes hand is broken when he tried to punch you.

I know how you feel. That kind of thing just hacks me off. Where's Jocko? what would he say?

When I was young (and foolish) and I had a bike I would carry rocks in my jacket pocket if I was wearing one. If some idiot was tail gating me I would wave them back once and if they didn't back off I would throw rocks over my shoulder into the front of their car. Probably not too smart now that I think about it but folks usually backed off with just a wave.
The only thing better than having all the guns and ammo you'd ever need would be being able to shoot it all off the back porch.

In the Kahr world, I wonder how things would have been if suddenly a few holes appeared in his windshield?

old spark plugs, my wife who rides a streetglide has been cut off numerous times by truckers and she is so so good at pulling along side and givng them the #1 sign. and aqs she rolls on the throttle and pulls in front she again is not to proud to turn and give him #1` again. They don't seem to want to fokk with a woman biker for some reason. If u ride--long enough, ur gonna go down, just the narture of the beast.Been my passion for damn near 50 years and I can't seem to shake it either but my age is starting to tell me alot to.

You did the right thing leaving that obnoxious old bastid behind - except for nor getting his tag # and calling the cops.

I saw a similar incident about 25 years ago on the Interstate in north Austin - but it was all at 65 mph!. An oldfart kept creeping up on the biker and forced him out of his lane onto the shoulder.

I quit riding thirty years ago after the second or third near miss where a geezer would pull right out in front of me while zippin' around town on my mighty hawg.

                              Hey CJB,
There's you answer. you need to ride with "old spark plugs". Given your weather might be a little better than jocko's neck of the woods right now you might be able to get that riding partner for room and board.

I was following my wife/son, who were in a car, on my skooter, one night after a family gathering, and was bumping into her rear bumper at every light.
I guess the guy behind me took offense to it, and got out and walked up to me, and got in my face.
I thought I could head butt this guy, with my full face helmet, and leave him to die in the street...I just drove off.
For me, a gun on the mc is transporting, not carrying, until the kick stand or mc goes down.
I can usually find enough room to get thru and out, sorry for your situation.
