    IL 1st Time Kahr Owner, CW9

    Hi, from IL, where we are supposed to get CC soon . Love my Stoeger Cougar 8000 and my Charles Daly Hi Power, but wanted something smaller in preparation for CC. Thought about a pocket .380 and some smaller 9mm (CM9), but wanted a little more power than the .380, and I don't shoot well if I can't get all my fingers on the grip. Debated back and forth between the Shield and CW9. Picked up my CW9 two days ago. Take it to the range today.

    Have done a superficial cleaning of the gun - break down (including the mag), quick wipe down with Hoppe's 9, polished feed ramp, mag feed lips, surface of follower, wiped it with dry patches, lubed it back up (used dry lube on mag spring and recoil spring), put it back together. Didn't clean the striker (?) channel as I didn't read about that until just now.

    Have always wanted a Kahr. I first shot one when I believe the K9 was a relatively new gun on the market. Was the first 9mm I was comfortable shooting (tried some SWs, a Glock, and a Ruger as I recall). However, I've mostly had revolvers until the past couple years. Switched to 9 for the lighter triggers, higher ammo capacity, and cost of ammo. Glad Kahr came out with a less expensive line of guns.

      You picked up a good gun there. Welcome and go shoot that thing.
      The only thing better than having all the guns and ammo you'd ever need would be being able to shoot it all off the back porch.

        Welcome to the forum! I hope you guys do get some kind of CC up there AND reciprocity with FL, too! I usually go up there to Southern IL once a year to visit my daughter and her mother and my son joins for a family reunion. I would like to be able to protect myself as I can in the rest of the states that I travel to and through.

        Here's some more info... most of which you may have seen, but watch the take down video and maybe read the FAQ's if you haven't. Good luck with your new pistol. That's a great size. I switched from my PM9 to my P40 for carry, but have the K9 and P9 as well in that size.

The Kahr is a different design… 6-7 unique patents cover the Kahrs. I’m not trying to imply that you don’t know anything about guns, but many don’t know anything about the Kahrs and some of the things you can do to damage or cause malfunctions of your new, or new-to-you Kahr pistol.

        There are many helpful members here most of the time who might be able to help you, but as anywhere, there are many opinions and not all are correct. Be mindful of this before doing anything drastic to modify your pistol!

          Thanks for the welcome, and thanks for the links and info, wyntrout! Just got back from the gun range (indoor). Will post my review later tonight in the CW sub-forum. In short:
          1. Wow, nice gun!
          2. Should be perfect for CC.
          3. Break-in period? What break-in period?
