Just picked up a CM9 at the Mesquite Gun Show today. I ordered one a couple months ago online, but it still hasn't shipped, so I gave up & bought one. Now the ordered one will probably ship Monday. I'll just have a spare.

Anyway, off to go clean out the oil & crud.

Oh, has anyone else noticed that whatever Kahr oils their magazines with smells like rancid veggie oil? All 3 of mine (I bought 2 seven rounders before I even had the gun) were that way.

I strip my new mags and degrease the tube, check the follower and the tube for any rough areas with fine grit sandpaper, and then lightly oil the spring with my fingers before putting them back together... free end to the front under the follower for more lift!

One very important bit of advice: Hold the Kahr pistol firmly when firing OR CHAMBERING a round. These compact pistols need all of the force they can get from the slide to get a round into the chamber successfully. If you don't hold the pistol firmly, part of the needed momentum is transferred to MOVING THE PISTOL and the top round will DIVE and jam into the right side of the feed ramp. The weak hand, over hand rack method gives the best grip and a firm rack will give you the best chance at chambering a round.

Use the weak hand fingers over the slide(clear of the ejection port), thumb along the slide and pointing to the rear. Use the gun hand to simultaneously firmly push the gun as you give a vigorous rack with the weak hand and cleanly release the slide as it reaches the rear limit and is "snatched" from the weak hand. This approximates a real rack from firing and beats the slide release method WHEN executed properly. Much more strength can be exerted when this is done closer to the body.

There are many helpful members here most of the time who might be able to help you, but as anywhere, there are many opinions and not all are correct. Be mindful of this before doing anything drastic to modify your pistol!

That's pretty much what I did with the 2 I bought in advance. I think I also dabbed a tiny bit of oil along the sides of the follower where they touch the inside of the tube.

I started viewing the KahrArms video once already, but it is pretty painful to watch. Manufacturers really need to hire some of the guys that do those videos voluntarily.

The part at 4:30 is pretty important. More guys f@ck up their pistol by jamming the pin in any old way. The pin and the actuator on the back of the slide lock lever need to be carefully inserted. That little spring is easily dented or bent on either side and give you grief.

For the followers, I want them to drop freely trough the tube with no binding.

A real biggee is holding the pistol firmly for chambering AND shooting. I added that to my list because so many people have trouble just chambering a round. You can't hold the pistol loosely becuase these tight, compact pistols need all of the energy they can get from the slide momentum to chamber a round. When you release the slide you can feel a lot of recoil there and a lot of it is wasted on moving the pistol if it's held loosely. I know that I'm repeating myself.

Have to remember that Kahr or any manufacturer has no idea how long the gun will sit on a distributor or gun shops shelve before it is sold and loved by the owner.

Hence the bag and the nasty oily condition. Far better than rust or varnish.

It's easily cleaned and I actually enjoy the ritual of cleaning it all up, all part of the bonding process.

The best holster I have found for forget-it-is-there comfort 24/7 with my CM9 is the PJ IWB Holster. There are so, so many members here that will concur. Paul is a great guy and a real gun lover, and he performs magic with kydex - making the holster incredibly comfortable to where you can't tell it is there whether sitting, standing or moving about. It is like the mass of the gun disappears, becoming one with your body. I carry mine with a 15° cant just behind my hip - the sweet spot. I prefer the linked one with the over the belt clip. It is available with j-hook, c-hook and velcro attachment method, and tuckable is an option. I have a tuckable one with velcro for if I need total concealment, but normally wear the above under a loose shirt.

Yeah, I get that. But must they really use rancid veggie oil on the magazines. That stuff reeeeeks.


In cleaning mine I think I figured out where much of the "polymer shavings" I've heard mentioned come from. The mold separation lines along the slides were quite messy. I guess I'll find out if cleaning them up helped when I take it to the range. I racked the slide 50 times or so after cleaning, then popped it apart again & didn't see any bits, so I might be good. It seems like Kahr also uses a slightly softer polymer than Glock does, so that might lead to the plastic shaving a bit easier. But I'm sure they had their reasons for that choice.

Looking at mine, it seems like you'd almost have to try to get that part wrong. It just seems to line up when you put it in. Maybe I'm just getting lucky.

Oh, you would be surprised. People mangle that "free" end of the spring or get it under the actuator, holding the slide lock up and engaging every chance it gets. The left side can get dinged, too, and allow the slide lock to come out with shooting. I have that problem with my P40, but it's the screw coming loose and allowing the spring to come forward along with the pin and the slide lock... I know to look for that, though, and try to remember to carry my Kahr parts and Torx screwdriver. I have spare screws, washers, & springs for all of my Kahrs... extractors and the pins and springs, too. I want to keep the things I've needed on hand, but Kahr is very good about sending you replacement parts for anything that breaks, falls off and disappears, or is defective. I've had some experience with that!
