  • Soon to be Kahr owner looking for advice

    Hello folks,
jon here in MA. Recently bought a house and started a family and all of a sudden I felt the need to bear arms. So I went down to the local PD, filled out proper paperwork, paid my fee and boom I now have a LTC. I have been firing different firearms for the last 5-6 weeks to get a feel for what I like. After firing 9s .40s & .45s I decided that the 9mm is the way to go for me (for now). The range I joined only has a PM9 for me to fire however I'm interested in the P9 due to my grip/hand size. Thoughts, reviews, goods and bads. Anything anyone may be able to add including amo choices, holsters and such would be great. Differences with other Kahr 9MM?

thanks in advance. Looking forward to using the forum a bunch.

Welcome to the forum. The P9 is nice. Also you can consider the CW9. The Kahr 9mm's are about the best pistols they make in my opinion. Advice would be after you get the pistol get some factory fmj ammo and shoot maybe 200 rounds to get used to it and break it in. After that any good hollow point ammo should be fine just shoot enough to make sure it feeds properly.

If you have any issues or questions just ask and lots of folks here are willing to help.
The only thing better than having all the guns and ammo you'd ever need would be being able to shoot it all off the back porch.

I agree with what yqtszhj said. Kahr makes great 9mm pistols. I would also add to look into a CM9. Not much difference in quality but big difference in price. I watched a Kahr spokesman on the Guns and Ammo TV show a few months back and he said there's not much difference between the PM9 and CM9 other than the machine work (cosmetics).

A good choice. The P9 is a very good size for both concealment, yet easy to shoot well. This size offers a full grip and is still very light weight. I recommend adding a quality grip sleeve, a cheap improvement IMHO.

I shoot mostly ball ammo, NATO rounds, but I've never had a failure with any brand. My personal carry ammo is Winchester PDX or Hornady TAP, 124gr.

My favorite holster for Kahrs is the Mitch Rosen Premier.
Judging by today's left wing, looks like Senator Joe McCarthy was right after all.

Unfortunately, living in Massachusetts limits your choices. It looks like Kahr only offers the P9 and PM9 with Mass compliant safeties. Both are good pistols but are on the top end of price. Personally, I would select a pistol that maximizes the 10 round limit. In case you don't have it, here are your government selected choices. http://www.mass.gov/eopss/docs/chsb/...ter09-2014.pdf

Made the leap and went ahead with the purchase. Very happy and pleased with the firearm. 200 rounds so far and no problems to speak of. Cleaned it once then let a friend show me how to really clean it and take it down (place that sold me the firearm didn't show me too much) Looking forward to my new hobby.
