  • Howdy from the "High Lonesome"

    Howdy folks.

Not new to guns but new to Kahr. Both my wife and I are former LEOs. We worked for different agencies, but had the same badge number.
I had a little pull with the High Sheriff.

We both carried and revolvers on duty and for concealed carry for over 40 years.
She has carried a S&W 642 as a SD gun for years, but shooting that little hand grenade was causing a lot of pain in an arthritic thumb joint and she no longer liked to practice with it.

So, we went shopping. I pointed her towards a .380 Auto of some sort, but it was her gun, her choice. She looked at the "little bitty" guns and passed.
She looked at Glocks, but din't like the looks of that trigger for concealed carry.

Finally the salesman laid a Kahr CW 45 on the counter. She liked it!! Hey Mikey, she likes it!!

They didn't have any .380s or 9mms. I was concerned that the recoil and muzzle blast of the .45 would be too much for her. I should have known better. She's fired all of my Magnums and 10mms without a hitch.

We went out to the ranch and fired off a bunch of rounds. Not only didn't she shy from the recoil, she said it was much nicer to shoot than her .38.

I fired some rounds and was impressed. Both of us liked the fit, no safeties, and DOA trigger.

BTW, she shot it better with the first 7 rounds, than she ever had with the little revolver. She always out shoots me and this was no exception, she's been doing that for 43 years..

I was still a little concerned about the recoil etc and 2 days later, I went hunting a 9mm for her to handle etc. In the process, I ran across another CW45 and wound up buying it.

I'm just plain impressed by the little guns.

I found a friend that has a 9mm and suggested we take a ride out to his place for her to try it. I said if she liked the 9mm, I had a friend that had shot mine and would buy hers. She said, "No, I like the one I have, leave me alone."

Momma raised some dummies, but they was my sister. When that ol gal says leave me alone, it's final.

So, we all of a sudden are a two gun Kahr family. We ain't got them plumb broke in, but we like them. Thanks to this forum, I found out her's was one of those with the short front rails. A quick call to Kahr and it is back there now getting replaced or whatever they deem proper.

Can't wait to get it back so we can go do some more shooting..

Great photo and awesome first post. The CW45 is a gem. I have a PM45 the little bit smaller size but had a hankering for the CW45.

Stick around, your gonna fit in perfect around here, I can feel it in my cells.

Have the missus join us too, sound's like good people.

What part of Wyoming you at? I visited Cody a few years back, taking my daughter to the college up in Powell.
Been in love with that area and state ever since.

Mostly concerned about the winters, the summers are awesome and I need some room, lots of room.

Wyoming last I checked only had 7 people per square mile. Sounds like plenty of room for me if I stay out of town some.

I am in Cheyenne in the SE corner of the state. That Northern tier, Yellowstone, Jackson Hole, Cody, Sheridan, is wonderful for the landscape and view.

It's a little dull down where I am. Kinda flat and open country. The pic shows a part of the ranch I grew up on.
I just retired from managing another family ranch 30 miles beyond the mountain on the skyline.

No, we don't own everything in between..

This is a picture of part of ranch on the "other side of the mountain"

As you can see we're purt near full!!

I did help a couple of refugees from CT find a place to start over here in WY a couple of years ago.. They now have license plates holders on their cars that say
"I'm not from Wyoming, but I got here as quick as I could!"
BTW, can you spot the two speed goats in this picture?

Spotted em right off, wasn't sure what they were. I seen a couple when we went through, made my trip.

Probably a bit warmer in the winter time down in your sector ain't it.

I might want to come be your neighbor. Officially I'm not a refugee but I could fake it.
That plot in front of the mountain looks just about right. Put a house right bout where that left speed goat is, hold an 06 about 45 degrees and shoot each direction. Where it hits will be the property line. We'll dig the moat starting about there.

A few trees might be kind of nice though.

If you was to turn about 45 degrees to the left, you'd see my shootin' range. The grey ridge 12 miles in the distance is my back stop. Now the ranch house and a few minor things is in between, so a feller has to be a leetle bit picky on where he aims.

Actually that grey ridge is Como Bluff. They been diggin dinosaur fossils outta there since Custer was in that little fracas up in Montana.

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid blew up the train near the left edge of the picture.

To git this back to gun related, I was up at the ranch yesterday and kilt some "cheeky" rocks with that there little Kahr CW45. That'll teach'm.

Welcome aboard. Plenty of LEOs here to keep you company. There's even a LEO forum. Thanks to you and your wife for your service. We support our local police. IMHO Kahr makes some of the finest concealed carry pistols that a man or woman can carry.

Now that's what I'm talking about. Man got a little room to breath. I went by the hole in the wall when I was over there, didn't go straight to it, they didn't have no wheelchair accessible horsey's available but I was close.
I could sure handle that country real fine.

Yup, breathin' ain't too bad out here, but you got to do it quick. Seems as if the air is always moving about 40 mph.

The only thing better than having all the guns and ammo you'd ever need would be being able to shoot it all off the back porch.

Nope, don't know that feller and have never seen the show.

Lots of folks seem to admire that show and the characters.

Kinda sounds like he's kinda mild compared to some of the old Sheriffs and LEO I knew 40 and 50 years ago.

There was some real characters back then. They enforced the law when they had to, but tried to keep people out of jail unless they wasn't smart enough co-operate.

I was much happier if I could get a guy back on track, rather than put him in the "iron Tipi".

Longmire was a good show. Then they took it off cable and put on netflix and my Internet is too slow for that plus I'd have to join to see it.

                              Thanks for sharing the pictures.
