I decided to see what I have, and I found this. IMHO this is how a Winchester or Marlin should look like.
This is a.44 mag. 1894 Marlin that I removed the rear sight and filled in the dove tail.
IMHO it makes for a sexy looking rifle
Is the wording too strong?

When we had horses, I'd carry this in a saddle scabbard and ride through a small town not to far from us. I'd wear my Australian Outback coat and my Man From Snowy River hat.

Never thought of putting a rear peep on a lever gun. I just put one on my 10/22 and have an 1896 Springer with them. Have to say that looks pretty good but just a bit odd to me...lol

I've got a pre-64 Win Mod 94 in .32 Win Special and I don't think I could bring myself to doing any cutting on it...lol

Peep sights, IMHO, are the most accurate open sights you can have on any rifle, so I understand you doing this. Some folks have troubles when first using them but after a little practice they are second nature. Is there any wonder they are the only open sights the military uses? (to my knowledge)

I have peep sights on a couple of my 94's. I like them alot.

They were drilled and tapped prior to me owning them so there was no loss. Easy to remove and plug the holes and you'd never know they were there.

That F.O. sight came with an hood, but it was paper thin. You could squeeze and bend it. So I took the original F.S. hood and opened it with my trusty Foredom tool and round files. The shaping of the dove tail slug to the contour of the barrel was a little more challenging..
I need to find a F.O. front sight with a bigger diameter rod. My eyes are getting old. I haven't seen this old friend in years. I forgot I had it because all the rifles are in their own sleeves

I have 5 marlins and 4 of them have Williams foolproofs on them. Combine a peep sight with a WWG Happy trigger and the marlins will give tight groups. Had nephew shoot a 3 shoot half inch hole with his 45-70 and my reloads.

I went to their site. Dang it! Now I'm gonna have to think about making a scout rifle in .243. Something else to add to the wish list:
Walter TPH, Browning mod. 71 lever action.

I thought I was cured. I guess it's true what they say about rehab. You can't stop going.

I compete in steel challenge matches, and most competitors shoot semi auto rim fire, or pistol caliber rifles or rim fire or center fire pistols.
There's a few that shoot wheel guns, but a miss and a reload can cost.
A guy that's a Cowboy action shooter shows up to a match with his open buckhorn sights Marlin .357 lever gun. He shot in my squad.
For those that don't know, there's six different courses of fire at 5 plates, from 10 to 35 yds. and you shoot each course five times as fast as you can. If you miss you can keep shooting at the plates until you hit them. Best times win in the classes.
So that's 25 rounds per stage or 150 rounds total if you don't have any misses.
It can be done, I've done it (allow me some bragging rights. It's my story)
This guy does the whole match without any misses. And on top of that he turns in some of the fastest times in the match against semi auto rifle and pistols.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it!
