I put a good one on mine with the Leapold mount system (base and rings). A good scope on that gun makes sense as it will most likely be the gun you shoot the most.

Unless your pockets are alot deeper than mine...

    Enjoy the Ruger.
I was once asked if I was "a paranoid for carrying my Kahr".
    "Nope" I said, "just prepared".
" prepared for what" he asked?
    "more stuff than you are"
    God Bless our Troups!

The best rule is, the best you can afford; what you buy depends on range you want it for. The Nikon scopes are nice. I like the new ones with built in laser range finder.

I have a Leupold 3x9 on my 10-22, but would prefer the Nikon BDC. http://www.nikonhunting.com/products...-_BDC_150/6725

Great thread! I was about to ask the same question about a Ruger 77.

I think mine has a cheap Tasco 3x9 power. Has always worked well, and was pretty inexpensive. It was a regular .22 scope with the built in clamps to attach to the little raill on top. You're not getting a lot of recoil with that, so it isn't very hard on scopes.
I think was one of those $30-$40 .22 scopes. It's a narrow tube, and doesn't give you much sight picture, but works great for me and the small varmits around here.

Anything with an adjustable objective for parallax correction would be fine.

Thanks guys! I like the look and sound of the Nikons (especially the IRT), but I like the price of the Rimfire BDC better.

Consider the BSA Sweet 22. That is also the only BSA I would drop money on. Not even the Sweet 223. Good scope, optics don't suck, repeatable zero, and the ability to change turrets quickly for different weights.
Attitude: it takes 43 muscles to frown, 17 to smile...and 3 for proper trigger squeeze.

After doing a lot of reading, mainly on the RimfireCentral.com forum, I chose the Mueller APV 4.5-14x40 AO scope. Great scope for the $'s.
I used Talley bases and rings.
Very happy with how it performs on my Ruger 10/22.

I have a Leupold VX-1 2-7x28 on my 10/22 Target, with Leupold PRW rings. This scope is specially made for .22's, with 60yd parallax.

Great balance; looks right; works great. Scope was $219 at Midway a while back.

Just got a Harris S-BRM bipod that I have not mounted yet.

You will never need more than a Prostaff Nikon on a 22, and they make one for rimfire rifles.

Thats said, after doing a lot of reading, I bought a silver Simmons 22mag scope for my SS Marlin 60. It has held zero for 2 years with regular use, throwing in the truck, etc. It is a great scope for under $60 and found it was made in a different plant than the cheapy stuff they sell. And this is coming from someone who does not like Simmons or Bushnell low-end scopes. I typically go for the Nikon Monarch line.

The scope on the 30-06 is a Nikon Monarch 3-9x40, and is a phenominally bright scope.
